Exhaust is huge for the SS/SC. Consider that the manifold is only a 1.75" outlet, the downpipe has a big kink and all three Ecotecs use the same cat back. Choose parts with the complete system in mind. Additional reading in exhaust design should help you see how different parts increase/move/pivot the power band. One more thing - our cars are supercharged, so they follow NA exhaust design rules except the effects are amplified and that's why you can get some great power here.
As for the intake, the stock airbox/filter combo is fairly restrictive and the piping gets all ribbed near the throttle body. So some gains to be had here, but not near as much as the exhaust.
NUMBERS!!
Exhaust: -10 to +25 whp (Seriously!! Don't just slap parts together... research and design!!)
Intake: 5-8whp

I would go with stage 2, especially if it's a new car. No need to throw out a warranty.
Regardless of HP gains though, intake and exhaust are a great way to start, if not even for the power gains. The sound is worth it enough

okay heres my opinion... dont just go and buy a stage 2 kit.. you can buy a used belt and hub for cheap and then get nates 2.9 pully and injectors... or even used injectors... thatll save you some money...

just start off with the dealer tune, then see how serious your gonna get with any future mods.. Prolly over time you just wont give a **** and get someone to give you a better tune.
