sweet!!!
I'm gonna save my money now and just do this!
Do you even have a rough Idea of what kind of HP you'll squeeze out of this (safely) using even the little turbo you have now?

are you concerned at all about the internals. im really looking forward to doing this. would be nice to be able to rape some of the other four banger turbos srt4 evo an sti's are what i want to go after next spring. (already got some of each but want to go after the more modded ones.)

I think the internals are not a worry. The big issues have been excessive heat from the high boost and inefficiency of the SC with smaller pulleys, so with the TC the heat issue is gone (see sub ambient IAT2s) and worry of melting a piston or a ringland to the point of fracture is gone. Now the owrry is how much boost is too much boost I suppose. Maybe I'm only blwoing pixy out of ym ass.

I"ll probably end up switch to a manual 2 stage from turbosmart down the line. Oh and for srt-4s some one with a stock one tried messing with me this morning coming in to work... lets just say 19psi and 65% throttle was enough for him lol. Car is rediculous, I just can't wait til I fix the maf piping and finish tuning this thing. WOT is gonna be nuts. As for internals only thing I"m worried about at the moment is the head gasket going to to head bolt stretch, might pop in the cometic head gasket and arp head studs for now. Also slowly chasing down these exhaust leaks, it's getting better, but still pretty bad.
and the gt28 should be more than enough on stock internals. I just can't wait to get this all dialed in, driving me nuts trying to be light on the gas doing logging runs. I figure 300whp should be noproblem for the stock motor to handle, maybe even 350. I will hopefully get to the dyno in the next 2 weeks or so to see what she's putting down.

that would be great were all interested in seeing those dyno numbers. i would hope your making more then 300 wasnt your old setup 296. would be a waste of money if you gain only a few hp i think. but if your look at somewhere near mid 300's that would be insane. well either way even if it is only a few more ponies your making it alot more effeicent thats for sure.

overall estimates for HP numbers should be in the 350-375whp once tuning is complete. But we shall see what this turbo is capable of. On another IAT temp note, now running 19-20 psi on the car with a max IAT2 of 91 degrees. Can't beat that. Once everything is dialed in, probably gonna bump up the timing a little, raise the boost to @23psi and reconnect the meth injection.
and yes 296whp was the max I was able to get out of the car on pump gas with meth injection on a 2.55 pulley with side exit 3" exhaust and some other things. So this should get me mid to high 300's. also it is a lot more efficient, the car blows through from 4k-redline in the blink of an eye now, I gotta really keep my eyes out for the shift light.

Hey paul as you know im doing the turbo swap too, but i like how everyone is like "dude your cars gonna be a beast on the streeet and at the track", but I am thinking the best place this car is gonna perform at is the autocross track! It already does good there stock, so imagine it with 375whp! Its gonna be a nasty autocross car and will kill a bunch of cars!

It would be better suited with a smaller ball bearing turbo for that, right now once it hits boost it's pretty violent, but lag is there down low, now if you were to run a gt28, that would be a great turbo for autocrossing the car. My car may get one more run at the track and that's it. Gonna dyno it, then de-tune it and use it as my daily until my monte is finished.

yea thats what i am running, A gt2871r turbo, so i am thinking it will be a monster at the autocross track! cant wait till its done! Oh and my friend has a cobalt ss/sc as well and he already has a gt28 turbo and he wants to swap it onto his cobalt, so will CA sell the kit to him w/o the turbo at a discount u think?

NICE! This just completely wiped away my wants to switch to a Stage 3 SRT-4.
REALLY hope that they release this to the public! BUT, Boo for the Stock intercooler! I bet if you switch to the Hahn Race manifold you'll get some more power. That stock intercooler has way too many twists and bends in it. BUT, I do wonder how much of the IAT cooling it is responsible for... it is supposed to be one of the most efficient styles of intercooler.
Sweetness! I'll bet those stock pistons will hold A LOT more power than Anyone, including GM, thinks... same with the axles. I think most people were detonating and melting pistons... I really don't think we've had anyone break a piston because they had TOO much power! Kinda makes me wanna sell these pistons and cams that I have now... put that money towards this Turbo kit.

wow for mid to high 300's i will deffentally get this. might have to sell the nitrous kit of mine to fund for this. congrats paul. so for a conservative setup what are you looking at? i want to get to round 325. please tell me that CA is gonna release this. I'm doing a custum two tone red faded to black finish this winter, and it would be nice to add this. just in case someone says that is that all show would be nice to have some go (right now go comes from 2.7 and 50 shot, but would rather have just a turbo much more efficent.

well I do have pistons and a spare motor on the side for the just in case. But I'm seeing 0 kr and my afr's are ok as long as I don't go WOT.
As for axles. well my stock ones gave up on life a long time ago lol.
as for kit.... please email Kenny@cobalt-addiction.com to get the level of interest up so he does produce it for the masses. Any questions though about it direct to me, just send him an email if you are definitely interested in buying the kit, just to make things a little less stressing over there.
The stock manifold and intercooler seem fine for now, bet will support at least 400hp with no modification. I am working on making a 3" log style one to use an ls2 or ls7 throttle body and ls7 mass air flow sensor. but that is my winter project. So for now it's helping me drop temps down, and since my Maf is after the air/air before the air/water, I can actually see exactly how much it helps drop IAT's
