Clutch Slip at 2000miles!!!!!!!
#28
Driver mod ftw... I have 4100 miles on mine, and I have driven it from down right WOT beating the **** out of it, drag racing, highway driving, and (mainly) stop and go city traffic. I shift wherever I want to, but I keep the tranny in sync so when i let the clutch out the engine is always at or near the speed of the transmission. Not a hint of clutch slip, and I can spin (or chirp, depending on surface) 2nd gear every time. I don't see any problems with the stock clutch.

I have 29,000 hard miles and the stock clutch is still going strong. Street races every weekend the first 6 months and powershifting. I also powershift 1-2 everyday. The other day I shifted into second so hard that there was a big bang. I still spin second.

With just 2k on the car, I don't have any slipping. I did notice that as of recent though, I can no longer chirp the tires on the 1/2 lift throttle up-shift (like I could when the car was new).
???
It's definitely not slipping even one bit though (no over-revving of the motor what so ever).
Just that the tires now "plant and go" on that shift, as if I had slicks or something.
Is the same happening to you guys when the tires have broken in some on your SS/SC's?
???

I was wondering what was going on. I had figured that if my car was now broken in, that it should have spun the tires MORE ... not LESS (or not even at all).

step one. stop getting on it for 1k miles
step two, shift at 3500 rpms or higher.
step three. make sure the clutch is engaged before you hit the throttle.
mine is doing just fine.

well see the thing is that i have never driven a stick till i bought this car and i have been shifting low when im driving normaly all the time. also ive kinda been beating the **** out of my car alot lately and i always downshift. so im going to try not downshifting anymore and shifting above 3000rpms and we will see how it goes.
1) you've never driven stick before
2) you admit you beat the **** out of the car
but then you want to blame clutch slip on the clutch itself?

For everybody that says the driver is the cause of clutch slip you may be right in some cases, but I had an 07 with less then 20000kms and I could not shift into second without major slip. I changed the way i drive to shift above 3000 and still got slip. My last car was a 160whp neon with the stock clutch at 250xxxkms....the clutch is tempromantal and not strong enough.

If your reffering to engine breaking....
if done correctly it will not apply any significant extra wear to the clutch.
Engine breaking is safer...better on fuel econemy....better for break wear....its just plain better over all.

if you rev match you can downshift all you want.. if you're going 40mph and you push the clutch in, put it in 2nd, and slowly let it out off idle then yeah your clutch is going to wear faster. If you're rev matching your downshifts (I do each and every time) your clutch will love you. I use the brakes to bring the car to a complete stop, otherwise I just let off the gas and let the engine slow the car down.

so rev matching while downshifting is just hitting the gas as you downshift????? also i am not downshifting at all untill the clutch is happy with me again and i have not gone WOT in 2 days!!!!!!!! but i dont know how much longer i can last lol
o yea and by the way i was churping 2nd gear stock before my clutch became unhappy with me

you can go WOT all you want as long as you drive the car right. To rev match, I blip the throttle so the engine's RPM is at or near the RPM of the tranny, so when I engage the clutch, the tranny and engine are spinning at the same speeds. Makes for a much smoother downshift and your clutch will thank you in the end. It takes some practice, but eventually you'll get the feel for it.
