on a bit of a serious note so i can catch a potential problem from becoming major, i can smell coolant almost every time my car is idling and when i park it for the night i can see smoke coming from under the hood. it seems to be coming from where the expansion tank is

Sounds like a slow leak or your tank lid isn't sealing... Ever notice any spots on the ground under the engine when you move it in the morning?

i haven't checked for that but i have noticed after it's driven that there is coolant on the fans and below where the tank is located. and a slow leak would make sense because the low coolant light comes on every once in awhile and i have to add more
