Coolant Temp... a little help here?
On the way home today while in traffic it hit 223. I don't ever remember seeing it even break 212. Is this normal at all? I haven't checked yet but I wonder if the electric fan is kicking on.

At what temp do the electric fans turn on? Mine was up to 220 today and neither of the fans were on. THis seems real strange to me. I've never had a car thats operating temperature was above 205.

pretty sure the fans kick on at 230 or so... i wouldn't worry about it... in traffic, it's going to get higher... once you start driving it should go back down though... in normal driving mine is around 189 - 200... in traffic it will sometimes get to 215 or so... totally normal...

yea mine does same thing...I drove on a gravel road in 1st gear mostly for like 2-3 hours and the temperature does spike up pretty high..had me worried as well but like said its normal. It came right down as soon as I started moving faster.
Full synthetic oil in the 2.0's i think so maybe that's why its ok. i dunno i'm no expert

I'm thinking about running a throw switch for my fan. Then I can run my fan all the time, or when ever I want too. When I'm sitting in traffic I could hit a switch and botta bing botta boom! Cooler temps! Even if it is normal for it to run as high as low 200s. I still would like to see a constant 170-190.

^^^^ it's called the a/c button
This whole thing doesn't make sense to me. When running the air conditioning the car doesn't go above 192. Why did Chevy opt to not turn the fans on without the a/c at say 200 or even 210? Is this something that can be changed with HPTuners? If I can run the car at 200 all day long, I'd be real happy.

You'll be fine with coolant temps above 223. If theres a problem the DIC will let you know.
I kind of hate having to cycle through everything to see my temps, but oh well. Makes me less paranoid, except when I See them and then have to remind myself 230 isnt that bad

Thanks for all the input guys. I'm fully aware of why the fans run witht he a/c on, just wondering why i never see the fans on any other time, especially since the coolant for the aftercooler is in the middle there. I also know that certain motors, in order for them to operate at their peak need to run a hotter than say 190. When I get my car tuned eventually, I'll see if they can change the threshold to turn them on earlier.

A bit of an update for those searching and looking for the final outcome / answer. I watched the temps climb up to about 230 and then it looked like the fan FINALLY kicked on and the temp dropped way down to 192. It looks like the ecu will wait until it hits 230 and then bring it down. When the car sits at idle it isn't making enough heat to raise it, it's when you're cruising down the highway and then come to a stop in traffic that the heat builds.
Q. Why is the coolant temp so high?
A. It's just the way it is. Until you hear bells and lights going off, you're in the clear.
