Corsa Touring Catback Install/Review

Corsa Touring Catback Install/Review
I have always wanted the Corsa Touring Catback for my 2007 Cobalt SS Supercharged, but could never bring myself to spend the $900 +/- for one. I originally had a GMPP Touring Muffler (which I was lucky to find) professionally welded onto my production catback, and was more than happy with the sound and added flow. Well, me being the way I am, wanted only the best for my car, so I began searching for a full catback exhaust system. I was looking for a system that would sound deep and throaty (w/o rasp) like my production catback + GMPP Touring Muffler, but I needed something that would flow better. Also, I wanted to stay within a certain price range ($500-$700 to be exact). So with that criteria, I began the search.
I looked into the Hahn 3" catback first. Reviews stated it was quiet while crusing, but deep and throaty at WOT. Next, the price of the Hahn system was within my price range at $579.99 found on Turbo Tech Racing's website. I further researched the Hahn, and came to the decision that it was just to large for my bolted GM Stage 3 car, and was better suited for a TVS or 300+ whp car. Next, I looked into the GMPP Touring Catback. Over the past few years, I've heard some good reviews on it through this website. I knew it sounded great, and the price was well within my range at $565 found on Crate Engine Depot's website. What bothered me was the size. I know bigger isn't always better (hence why I steered away from the Hahn), but it just didn't make sense to put a 2.25" catback on my GM Stage 3 car. So, I continued my search, and finally decided that I wanted a 2.50" system.
I looked into all of the 2.50" systems in my price range Magnaflow, Mandrel Exhaust Systems, etc. etc. I read reviews on each of them, and still wasn't satisfied. So what 2.50" system was left that would meet the criteria I was looking for ? Corsa met my first criteria on sound, but failed in the price department. I also heard that there were no Corsa catbacks to be found anywhere. Either vendors didn't have them, or they weren't in stock. Well, with some luck and a lot of searching I found a Corsa Touring catback at a price to good to be true.
How does $729.47 with free S&H sound ? The website I found the little gem at was http://www.streetsideauto.com. Not only was $729.47 a great price, but they also offer rebate coupons for items over certain price ranges each day. I visted their site on a good day, because I received $25 dollars off the orginal sales price. I couldn't pass up this deal, so I purchased it.
Enough story telling.... Lets get to the install photos/review
Production Catback w/ GMPP Touring Muffler left, Corsa Touring Catback right.
Production Catback Resonator inlet vs. Corsa Touring Resonator inlet
Production Resonator inlet = 2 1/16" (very restrictive)
Corsa Touring Resonator inlet = 2 3/8" (much better )
Waiting to be installed ....
This shot shows how nice the exhaust hangs/fits.
The 4" tip looks so nice peering out from the rear fascia cutout.
Installation:
Installation was very straight forward. Full detailed color instructions were included. The exhaust comes in 4 sections (Resonator, Intermediate Pipe, Over Axle Pipe, Muffler). Each section slides together, and is secured with Torca clamps. Once I made sure the tailpipe/tip was nice and even in the cutout, I torqued all clamps to spec. Total installation took me about an hour.
Review:
The quality of the Corsa Touring Catback is top notch. The welds are clean, and the hardware for installtion is of high quality. The sound of this exhaust is amazing. It is very smooth at idle with a slight rumble. Rev it up a bit, and the exhaust gets deep and throaty with zero rasp or break up. I didn't get to take it for a road test to see how it performs yet, because up here in Northeastern PA, the roads are covered in salt and brine. Also, I installed the ZZP 3" Downpipe this winter, and haven't even tested that out yet either, so the performance gain I feel (when I finally take the car out) will prob. be a combination of the both. Sorry guys, wish I could be more accurate. I have a sound clip, but I recorded it at in my father's shop, and there is some echo that slightly destorts the actual sound. I will provide you guys with a quality sound clip in the near future.

glad you could find one, i tried for a ******* month and couldn't... now i got a hahn 3" and it's too ******* loud.
anyone thinking about getting a hahn, don't listen to the people here saying the hahn has a good sound, it's just ******* loud.. the only thing this exhaust is good at, is making a metric **** ton of noise.

Yep OTTP 3" is freaking loud as hell too: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=w1UiMsPigZc, http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=19RT5DBU2po
I'm looking into a chambered muffler like this one:
to dampen the sound a bit, at least at cruise. I dont mind WOT being a little angry.
Congrats again, it looks great!

yeah i've just given up hope. every exhaust i've tried except the gmpp touring has just sounded like complete ****.
why the **** can't someone make a good sounding exhaust? it's like these companies think that loud = good... then of course you can't tell from clips and you end up buying their **** cannons and then it takes 2-3 months to sell them and try another.
i may end up doing a 3" pipe back to a splitter into 2, 2.25" pipes and a dual exit gmpp touring setup

Thats what i figured. I have a magnaflow 6" round race muffler swap right now. Its actually really quiet. After the ZZP big turbo kit it wont be anymore, but it does have a nice tone and some deep tones.
That sounds really good!

Waiting for that sound clip video of this exhaust! Nice write up, a freind of mine when he had a cobalt ss/sc had the touring catback and i wish i could remember how it sounds. If its quiet and smooth like its said to be i may look into getting it myself.

Keep an eye on all the welds on the corsa touring. And make sure you clamp it together tight as hell. My old corsa touring cracked at the weld around the resonator. 3" exhaust is best for LSJs tho, but with stage 2 you'd be fine with the corsa.

- Corsa has since fixed the weld issue they had with the resonator.
- I did not make this thread for comparing which exhaust size is best for the lsj. 3" is not always the best for an lsj anyways, unless you are putting out the power for it. Usually +/- 300whp. A good 2.50" system is more than enough for cars making 250whp-300whp. Which is the range my car is in.
- I'm not GM Stage 2. I'm GM Stage 3.

That exhaust looks fantastic dude, I love it!
And for those saying 2.5" isn't enough, here's an example:
https://www.cobaltss.net/forums/dyno-results-170/tvs-dyno-198208/
Yeah, it a TVS, but obviously 2.5" is supporting a TVS
Sometimes it's fun to make impressive power / impressive times with a humble setup
