550 whp isnt imposable on a 2.0, remember the DSM's are 2.0's and i have some friends with 400+ whp eclipses, talons and lasers, a few of them are All wheel horse power!!! heck i had enough stuff in my garage to make a 500 plus whp monster DSM. but with that list USE CLEVITE BEARINGS, just cuz it has a GM tag doesnt make it good and if you can use at least eagle forged ESP Hbeam rods!! if your in there do it right!!

good luck man!

As for the " why not get a vette" i understand why you didnt.

People dont understand, you get more props from getting a cobalt from 200hp to 400hp then you would for a vette from 400 to 650.

people expect vettes to be fast.

Why even bother with twincharging? Straight turbo would be more simple and provide better results for less money.

As much of a Corvette nut as I am, I think having a sleeper car like that would kick ass. Besides, it would be cheaper to insure with MORE power!

Thats a really sick idea and i hope it works out for you. I was almost going to do a crazy $10,000+ build up on mine too but I decided I'm just gonna buy and 02-04 Z06 vette next year. Anyway I hope it works out for you, keep us updated.

Update

I talked with JBP today about a few things for the build.
They suggested staying with the stage 2 pulley and injectors until after the tuning is done. I was told that because it will be a new engine again, sort of like a born-again virgin, that throwing too much fuel could cause a catastrophic failure.
We also decided to add to the list by going with porting the S\C, boring out the throttle body and adding new rail, customizing the chain tensioner, and poliching every inch of brush aluminum on the engine including the S\C.
They are getting quite excited about doing this build and I told them that I am keeping everyone here in the loop so if this works well\great JBP will get lots of free advertising.
Jonel or Zinner, I am not sure if you guys have approached them as a supporting vendor yet, but the fellow I have been talking to seemed surprised to hear about our site. Maybe now is a good time to contact them?

There is no If
JBP has already ordered the parts and started the mathematical equations required to do the cams for this build. 16 days from now I remove my engine to ship to JBP then the sleepless nights begin as I "dream" of big power in a little engine and grown men crying. That is except Cobalt owners who will rejoice, and then comes world domination.

Update

The engine comes out this coming Tuesday and the following day the truck picks it up to take to JBP. JBP says 3-5 weeks for the build and people tell me that in real time that means 8 weeks. JBP is already doing the custom grinds for my cams and have ordered the parts we will be using including all the Ferrea parts which take a while to show up according to JBP.
I have contacted 2 companies on custom half shafts for this project and right now the concern is the ABS hub being to large for the work needed to handle 550hp.
I am going to be putting in the Quafie LSD as TTR says this will hold 700hp which works for my build. I am futher told that the F35 tranny is capable of what I am after.
I have also sent off an email to Hahn Racecraft outlining my plans as well as the intention of using a twincharged setup. I am hoping they will help by being the company involved in doing this part of this project.
I have also been talking to companies about either slicks or drag radials and it seems that drag radials will be easier to work with because of wheel size.
Then the hardest part of this whole project was taken care of this morning, I told my wife how much more this is going to cost. Now if I make it through the night it's all good

Well then, hope you make it through the night because I have to see this done. It's kind of like masturbation. You can only look at magazines and watch videos for so long. Then you need the real thing. Keep up the good work bro. Thanks for the updates too.

As for breaking it in I am sure there will be no shortage of volunteers.

Well I hope the same thing, but they know that I post on the forums and I let them know a lot of people will want to know how this works out. It was actually JBP's idea to ship it to them because they want glory from this build, for which they are giving me a break on labour. Then there is the matter that they will still want a truck load of money when it's done

At this time we are going to use the stock blower, JBP will port & polish it though.
As for a whipple.....I am going to have to see what all this produces first and for this kind of project a couple of doors might open up simply because this is a first of it's kind on a LSJ that GM doesn't have a hand in, either technically or financially.

The following is a list of the work JBP will start once I ship my engine to them in 2.5 weeks. On top of this list will be the clutch, flywheel, custom drive shafts and drag radials needed to bear this kind of power. I should likely plan for a new tranny after I recover from the wife's beating that I am going to receive when she finds out what I said yes to
