hahaha yea man this happened to me the night before i was leaving on a 500 mile trip and it kinda freaked me out. also happens when i drive in the snow
idk what it is but all you have to do is disconnect the battery for like 10 minutes and just reconnect and you should be good to go

This might be a long shot but make sure all your brake lights are working....mostly the 3rd brake light. I saw a Ford once a few years ago had this problem and it was the 3rd brake light. Crazy I know but it fixed that car.

its because when your third brake light comes on, it kicks your cruise off.
so if you have a light or two out or have leds with no resistors, then it keeps thinking your third brake light is on and no cruise.

I had this prob too.. Mine is a 06 and it's been happening since I bought the car.. What I do is wiggle the clutch peddle till it engages.. If I hit something hard like a pot hole it disengages but I just deal with it

Reset your batteries if you have a third brakelight, if you push your clutch a certain amount of times without changing gears it disables it (Maybe driving slowly in snow, or on traffic, etc.)

If you press the clutch AT ALL it's supposed to disengage. If it's not disengaging there's a problem.

Disengange and disabling are two different words. Pressing the clutch a certain amount of times without shifting the gears, not while cruising disables the cruise control feature by setting an invisible code. Reset it by removing your battery cables for a few minutes.

I haven't used cruise in my Cobalt in....jeez.....YEARS. But I made a road trip last June in my other car that doesn't have cruise. 550 miles of all highway and no cruise control sucks *****.

Didn't think cruise would work in 1st anyway. I'm thinking more of people that put the clutch in at highway speeds....multiple times. I've only met a couple people that do it, but they're out there. My best friend's boyfriend is the worst offender I've met. ANYTIME he's going down the slightest downhill section of road, car stays in gear, clutch goes in. "But I'm coasting!" "Then do your TOB a favor and throw it in neutral!"

i have the factory third brake light and it worked fine and i noticed a white knob looking piece above the clutch and when you press the clutch it moves it up. could it be sticking somewhere up there and if so is there any safe way to pull it out. and i changed my brake lights to the smoked leds but my cruise stopped working before i changed them out
