DD fiasco 5 w/pics

Okay so my_bd and I yanked the engine out of the car yesterday and we got to survey the damage up close.
The problem was clearly in cylinder 1 and something was seriously wrong to take out a rod.
I haven't looked inside yet with the boroscope but it sucks that for the money those cost that taking pictures isn't possible.
Anyways, you are all here just for the pictures so here they are.

The plan right now is to install the replacement JBP shipped out, which should be here Tuesday.
The way I see it if they get next one right then perhaps the race engine will be fine. If the next engine dies then we all know what that means.
One thing I know about all of this, my_bd and I are getting really efficient at re&re'ing these engines.

Yes

The first one died from a broken crankshaft pulley.
Then that engine was rebuilt but damaged in shipping.
Then it was returned and had the oil filter housing removed and rebuilt again.
Now it is the one with the tiny hole in the side
Time will tell whether or not #3 turns out any better.

If this one craps out too, just re-build yourself. It doesn't seem that JBP can put together a bottom end that will last.

Seriously, build it yourself. Have them send you the parts.
Hell, send me the parts, I'll build it and test it

I don't know all the history here so forgive me.

Why are you running balance shafts in a race engine?

Was the crank pulley that broke the one they are selling? If so, I might want to take mine off...

looks like a massive block failure to me... similar to the massive oil pan failures I've experienced in the past...

That will be the plan if this one dies. I have had several offers of help from the "brain trust" on here which I may need to accept.

I am sure you will and to be extra careful I should send you the TVS/return fuel/meth injection and other assorted goodies so you can dial everything in together.

The engine being sent was already to go which is why I am giving JBP the chance to make this up. They are aware that the forum has really soured even more towards them than before.

As he said, this is just the DD engine.
By the way, for the next few weeks JBP is going to take a break from my project car because one small mistake on that car will be a death knell for them.

It was their pulley but it is a toss up whether it was the pulley failing or an improper installation. To date no one else has had a properly installed JBP pulley break.

I am thinking maybe just some JB Weld should make it good as new.

WOW rod...I seriously can't believe the luck that you have. We have both said it a million times, if you weren't to have bad luck, you would have no luck at all lol. BUT bad luck can only run for so long, lets just hope its not 7 years worth lol. I am sure the 3rd time will be the charm. I wish you the best of luck with all of your projects man.

You really are an inspiration to the forums and we are all glad you are sticking with these projects. Keep your head up, things HAVE to start going your way sooner or later buddy

you're not using the jbp crankshaft are you? Maybe it's their cores that are fucked. Who knows.
