"Dual" Exhaust Question

I was thinking about getting a custom catback dual outlet exhaust. Question is, do you guys think this muffler would fit under my '06 SS/SC with the following setup? The muffler is a Magnaflow with 2.5" in/out outlets that I found on eBay:

http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/12158...QQcmdZViewItem

This is how I'd theoretically like to see it setup:

Other than having to get a fix for the other outlet to fit inside the bumper, do you guys think this would be do-able? Better yet, any guesses on sound? Another idea I have is dual glasspacks, one on each side.

Yeah, see that's something I wouldn't know. The only other car I've put an exhaust on was a '98 Camaro V6 and it sounded great. Then again, that could've been because of the 2.5" Magnaflow stainless catback exhaust along with ceramic coated headers and a cam'd/tuned engine.

I guess maybe something I should ask is, how do you make this car sound throaty with the dual outlet exhaust look?

This may help you make room for that dual

That's what I'm hoping to do, but I won't do it until I'm ready to get an exhaust fabbed in. You did a great job though, dude!

As has been discussed on here many times. There are no benefits what-so-ever to running duals on a 4-banger. That setup you have is not true dual as it only has one muffler. I don't believe you'd see any gain from it over a straight 2.5" pipe. Plus, there's no way to make a hole over there for the other pipe without it looking like ass and not matching up. You'd have to get that rear lip that has the dual cut-outs in it.

I wouldn't do it.

the outlets would only need to b 2.25" or even 2".. if i had spare $ and wanted that look i would do it with that rear lip wit the cut out.. but it would have to look professional

As I said, it's a 'dual outlet' setup. Note: not 'dual exhaust.' And I wouldn't be doing it for massive gains, but for looks and a small amount of gain. There's no such thing as a "true dual" on a I4 engine anyway.

you don't. it's a 4 banger, and it's gonna sound like one no matter what.

I have dual exhuast on my Matrix. I cut out the bumper myself and had dual Magnaflow mufflers put in along with a hi-flow cat and a hi-flow resonator.

Np gains from doing this, just all for looks.

I just do it because my personality like Symmetry and the single one sided exhaust bothers me. So I want it ONLY for looks. I would not expect to gain any HP over my currebt Axleback, but I want the looks, and might as well pipe it for functional purposes, just to move gases.

And as for looking like ass, maybe you should click on my link to the bumper cutting. I tried to show how to do it professionally, but other's are bound to screw up.

Hey....to each his own. I liked it, and a lot of other people did. And a lot of people remembered my car as the "Matrix with dual exhaust".

Well, I was doing 100+, the matrix, maybe 70. He pulled in front of me and left me no-where to go, cutting me off.

Yeah, 4 of us were driving a little quickly through traffic late one night, then this ass just pulled out in front of me. I know the area where he lives, I have seen the car again. I get pissed every time.

Well I hate to break it to you but the top speed on the Matrix XRS is 219km/h, or for the USA buddies approx. 136mph.

So the 100mph+ is definitely possible. I have been up to top speed in my XRS.

And for the guy doing 100+ and complaining about someone pulling in front slower.....sorry if not anyone else is trying to double the speed limit on a public highway. Keep it on the track......and maybe you won't get cut off.

Yeah I hear ya. When I bought the XRS, my car before that was a Dodge Shadow. HUGE jump in power. And now I am moving up to the SS S/C, another jump. Just gotta remember to remove the led from my right foot before driving.

Yeah, first car was a 1987 lincoln continental, like 4000 pounds with a 5.0, then a 1993 toyota tercel(maybe 40 whp), then the SS. So I had a lot of illegal fun when first driving it.
