E85 FAQ/sticky?

E85 FAQ/sticky?
Ok, so I am no expert on E85 but anyone who researches it can see there are lots of benefits and some downfalls. I log on here a lot and see E85 threads popping up all the time. I think it would benefit the forum to have an E85 FAQ sticky thread. I know there are plenty of people on here that know a lot about it. CCS3, Ebristol, Infraredline. etc. If the experts could work together and put up a good FAQ and have the Mods sticky it, I think it would really benefit the community. Just a thought.... Keep in mind I'm not asking for this thread specifically to be stickied... Ill just keep adding the info the experts post in here. I hope it helps everyone interested in E85 including me!
My experience: 2.8 pulley 80# injcetors, FMHE, Header, 2.5 catback, CAI, Tuned for E85. I made 267whp and 247wtq.
Whats Necessary:
LSJ M62
TUNE!!!
80# injectors
If a 2005 you will need either a new fuel pump or a fuel pump rewire, due to the fact that year has a weaker pump.
LSJ TVS
TUNE!!!
80# Injectors
Recommend a return style fuel system.
LNF
Most Run E47 which is a 50/50 mix of E85 and 93 gas. This is because they LNF's cannot upgrade injectors to handle the increased fueling needed
You will need a TUNE!!!
LNF's aren't usually recommended to run on full e85. The sweet spot for us is e47. As far as fueling upgrades, we are really limited to only 2 options. Upgraded fuel lope on zzp cams or 5th injector setup.
Stock k04 LNF's on e47 will be perfectly safe with no fuel system upgrades, only must is a fuel pressure increase on the high pressure fuel pump. Depending on the car, some LNF's can get away with running full e85 without issues with big fuel pressure drops, others can not.
A small turbo upgrade line a bnr2871, or k04+ can sometimes get away with no fuel system mods when running e47 but a minimum of an upgraded fuel lobe must be ran for straight e85.
An EFR or larger turbo running e47 MUST have a minimum of an upgraded fuel lobe and depending on turbo size and boost needs will most likely need a 5th injector setup. (09CobaltSS1)
Q: Does E85 not start when its cold outside?
A: Well, both really I guess but I was more specifically refering to mornings when it's been sitting all night and cold starting when it's like 30* or less out. I think there may have been maybe 1 time when it cranked a little longer than usual but if I remember correctly it was stupid cold that morning (like -20*) but other than that it started fine. (09CobaltSS1)
Q: Do 05's need a new fuel pump?
A: Just for the record, the 05 pumps will flow plenty of fuel for 95% of the people's setups on E85. The main problem is that their failure rate is much higher than the newer pumps. My pump finally gave up on me about a month after I put the ZZP rewire kit on my car to try to give me that little bit of extra fuel. I rev my car to 7600+ rpms on the TVS and 2.7 and I wanted a little more safety cushion for fueling before going BRFPS or RSFS. While the pump was able to slack at lower voltages and 7400 rpms max fuel demand it was fine, but when I started reving further and did the rewire (not blaming ZZP at all, the rewire clearly provided more voltage to the pump ) it just got tired and finally had enough. (InfraRedline)
Q: Can you run 60# injectors?
A: According to some it is possible, its all in the tune. However most say it is safer to simply switch to 80# injectors to prevent a lean condition at higher rpm's
Pros: Easy power, cools combustion temps, about $1/gal less than 93.... did I mention more powa!!
Cons: Inconvenient, less fuel mileage, not readily available in most areas, requires some sort of fuel system upgrade in most cases

Good news folks, I just bought a TVS, so ill post up my experiences with E85 and the TVS when it is put on. Should be a good comparison of the M62 and TVS!

I'm not sure if they mean cold starts... or starts when it's cold outside.
During the middle of winter I've had some trouble getting mine to start, on a cold start. lol Usually after the engine's warmed up the first time that day you don't have any issues again.

good idea. yeah... if the pros could come together and make a faq about it it would be awesome..
most of us are DDing our cobalts, so a pro and con about DDing a highly modded cobalt with e85 would be nice. what are some long term things to expect from it... problems you may or may not encounter. things like that would be nice.
i am not interested in e85. but for other ppl,
and kinda curious haha

I like the fact that there is more torque on tap without getting into boost when driving around town. I also like the fact that the car seems to idle and cruise smoother too.
A downside is that it doesn't burble the way 93 does when you're cruising and let off. lol

just mess with ur timing in that area u can really make it pop. or wat ever u would like..
i would recommend that anyone that is converting to e85 to put a good set of forged pistons in and arp head studs...Im running 150 shot of nos on e85 and i blow the hg everytime i hit the button cuz i stretch my arp head studs.
