Eaton M90 supercharger Swap!

Assuming that tunning for our cars is not that far away, how praticle or easy would it be to put an M90 blower on our SS/SC and how much would it cost? Also what type of gains could we see? Is there any draw backs?

The M90 also has a signifacantly longer snout, if you want to pull one from the GTP's or Monte Carlo SS S/C.

Sorry to stray off the topic, but I have a question on the link posted above.

I thought a roots charger would run hotter than a twin screw, beaused the rotors actually touch on a roots, where the twin screw doesn't.

You will make the same power nearly if you really think about it. The M90 at 12,000 rpm is doing the same thing our M62 does at 14,000 rpm. You really wouldn't get anywhere with it. Nice article though.

M90 pushes more cfm which would create higher boost for our smaller engine.

Hmm...be careful with that. The engine can only hold so much air. When you have a blower nearing the size of our engine in air displacement, you start running into problems.

BTW the M62 gen 5 can take a spin up to 16000 rpm the gen 4 tops out at 14000

While an interesting writeup there are a few factors overlooked.

1) Spinning a larger blower slower creates the same (or more) boost at a cooler level allowing you to get rid of KR or add timing
2) Spinning any blower slower has less parasitic loss in terms of horsepower
3) At some point you can only spin your current blower so fast before spinning it any faster results in no performance gain or negative (more HP to spin it than you gain or you are beyond the efficiency limit of the current blower). If you are able to spin an M90 lets say with a 2.6 pulley (usually considered the limit) with no KR then the only way to add boost is a larger blower (or an overdrive balancer but again you may not beneift from spinning that blower faster) assuming you stay supercharged.

I do agree though that to make mad power turbo is the only route to go, I was just pointing out some reasons why a larger blower may make sense. In the 3800 world people have added MP112 blowers, whipple blowers and even 2.2 litre Kenne Belle Blowzilla superchargers to our motors all with great effect.

turbo would be nice, I was somewhat upset that GM used a supercharger and than a year later came out with a 2.0L turbo. I would have gladly waited/paid for a turbo 2.0L. O well!
