ok now i have a question...
if i dont want to tune myself, but want a professional map done, do i need to buy the program or can i go to a licensed HPtuners tuner and get a map done without buying the software, because the guy would have everything already?
familiar with other tuning software on other platforms, not this

yea that's what alot of LT1 LS1 guys do, they bring it to a dyno shop, they strap it on and do a bunch of pulls while changing the maps, then once you and them are satisfied, it stays how it is...then if you add mods, you go back and they do it again...in the long run, having the software and learning yourself how to do it is cost saving big time! Just think that for minor changes you could plug your lap top and do whatever... let's say you want to drive a long trip, you could load up some already saved up tables so you could run 87 octane safely...then once at your destination you could bring it back to full performance etc etc...nifty stuff I tell ya!...for us, once you learn, there's no stoping ya, pulley swaps, injectors...AND you'd get to data log under real driving conditions, which can vary from just dyno pulls...you could have the car tuned on a dime...my bud on his 396 LT1 got a 260 dur cam, 670 lift idle like a kitten (figure of speach) and was geting int he up of 25-28mpg highway and 18 city...on a 600hp motor, NA...the hole thing was just nifty, he'd feel a stumble, he'd look at the tables...add substract a couple things, stumble was gone...but don't fool yourself, tuning is an art that you need to master, and you need to learn the ins and out of your car and what the car likes...at times I wish I had EFI on the 496 *sigh*
