Engine Coolant Temp. Sensor.... Maybe???
Here is what my car is doing;
- When I first turn it on, could be in the morning or after I've been driving it for a bit, the fan comes on (A/C is off)
- The coolant temp indication on my DIC still operates and indicates a normal cooling condition.
- When a friend of mine recently connected his HP Tuners, the car constantly indicated an overheat condition (I think around 120 degrees)
- The car dosn't appear to be overheating
- The I/C pump appears to be working because I can feel coolant flow through the lines of my OTTP heat exchanger.
Alldata DIY says its the (ECT) Engine Coolant Temp. Sensor, but my dad, who is a mechanic, thinks its the thermostat.
Anyone else ever have the same kind of problems?
Thanks in advance for any advice or help.

hey bro im having the same problem.. my fans stay on even when the key is on but the car isnt running.. i changed the ECT sensor and that didnt do a thing.. someone else had the same problem also and he told me that he replaced his thermostat and that fixed it.. sounds weird but i guess if the computer finds a problem with the thermo, it automatically kicks the fans on as a safety precaution..

coolant temp sens is bad..its happens alot to most gm vehicles..i doubt its the thermostate other wise u would have a high reading and the car wouldve overheated by now...but to be on the safe side dont be hard on it.
