Exedy Clutch!!! for SS S/C

Alright I thought I would start creating the buzz. For the past 2 months I have been talking to exedy about a clutch for the 2.0L. The are the ones that created the single hyper clutch that the GM race team has been using and it;s awesome.

They offered me a pretty sweet deal but do to money issues I must decline. They would offer the exact clutch kit that is in the GM racing Cobalt and they offered to install it as well. The only downside was the price $1350.00 US.

http://www.coximport.com/exedy/hyper...make=Chevrolet

Notice how the LSJ has a spot which will be filled in SEPTEMBER the release date for the clutch kit.

The Exedy Hyper Single Clutch is engineered to optimize performance for cars that are moderately modified, but do not require the clutch capacity of a multi-plate clutch. Similar to Exedy's multi-plate clutches, it has a forged aluminum cover that is anodized purple. The aluminum cover is stiffer than a stamped cover and therefore allows a higher lever ratio to maintain the pedal efforts at a reasonable level.

The Exedy Hyper Clutch comes with a steel flywheel and a 6-puck cerametallic facing, spring center damper disc assembly. The disc is generally smaller and thinner than the OEM disc making for lower inertia and therefore quicker, easier shifting and less wear and tear on the transmission synchros. The higher clamp load and cerametallic friction facings give approximately twice the holding torque of the OEM clutch and generally higher than other single plate clutches.

As with all Exedy Cerametallic Clutches, the street driveability may be marginal due to chattering and harsh engagement characteristics.

Exedy Clutch Kit Includes:

- Exedy pressure plate
- Exedy clutch disc
- Exedy Flywheel
- Exedy recommended alignment tool
- Exedy recommended throwout bearing
- Exedy general clutch installation instructions

Email from Exedy

Pete,

Thank you for the inquiry.
Yes, we will release Stage 3 (Hyper Single) for Cobalt SS (2.0L S/C) this
Summer.
We have been working with GM Racing, and they won the Time attack race after
SEMA 2005 with this set up.

Part number: GH02SD
This set up includes Lightweight Chrome-moly Flywheel, high torque capacity
sprung hub disc, and anti burst nodular pressure plate with aluminum forged
cover.
It handles 425LBS-ft @ flywheel for circuit use.

Pete,

The available timing in USA for Cobalt SS stage 3 (GH02SD) is still in
September.
But as Evan talked with you before, we have a prototype same with we supplied to
GM Racing in stock, and if you are interested to buy, we can arrange to sell to
you directly only this time.
Thank you for your follow up.

I honestly believe that this will be the best clutch out there for us 2.0L.

Any questions please post in the thread, I will try to answer any questions I can.

Thanx man!

The flywheel I am not certain of I will find out but you can sure that it is lighter. When they mention that the clutch has a harsher engage point that has half to do with a lighter flywheel, but I'll find out what I can for ya.

Where are they located? That isn't a bad price for installation, clutch and flywheel. That is what you would pay anywhere else.

thats just the clutch and flywheel the installation was going to be FREE for me. We'll be paying 1300 just for the kit than whatever for installation. That's why I said it was a sweet deal but can't do it right now.

Exedy is located in MI.

FREAK? look at ur post count............j/k

Exedy had a standard 4.1 kgs for flywheel so around 9 lbs and 425 @ fly wheel is around the 360-370 hp.

Noone has the clutch yet in a street car. They are offering used prototypes from what I read. Adn drivabilitywise... "street driveability may be marginal due to chattering and harsh engagement characteristics"

So It'll be like any serious street clutch. It'l engadge quickly and you'll probably have a hell of a time getting around smoothly form a stop.

You guys are nuts. $1300 for a clutch that can only handle 425ft-lbs? I think not.

$1300 is alot of money but I can almost guarantee you that this clutch will kick ass. With all the problems spec and CM have had I would think this news would be music to your ears. If you want to put cheaper crap in ur car thats fine its ur car.

This is a kit, read the first post. Any aftermarket clutch and flywheel is going to engage faster and harder than stock. Stock clutch on most cars (cept 03 04 Cobra) is for the general public. You need to realize that a clutch that engages very soon and more aggressively with a flywheel that is much lighter than stock is more of a challenge to use. The killer is the flywheel! With a light flywheel it doesnt take much to stop it (stall) but the purpose is that it gets moving faster (better performance).

At the end of the day we will have to wait to hear from ppl that buy it was well you could ask anyone else that has a Exedy hyper clutch kit.

Not to bring back a two week old thread, but I got an email from Exedy.

"We currently offer a stage3 clutch/flywheel kit for that car. The part number
is a GH02SD, and they are avaialable now. However, we dont currently have
plans for a stage1 or 2 for that car.

I hope this helps!

yk"

Apparently they are out now. I'm going to talk to them a bit more about it, but I will have the the funds on Friday and I think I may order it then if they are really out now.

I am just worried if I am going to like this on the street since I drive in bumper-bumper traffic a lot.
