Exhaust Upgrades
I've been wanting to upgrade the exhaust for awhile now. Cat's clogged and now im stuck with the decision to upgrade or just patch it till i get more $$$.
heres what ive been looking at...
1) (Upgrade) ZZPerformance - Mid Length Header & Downpipe Combo #ZZ-MIDLHDP
2) Magnaflow - Magnaflow Catback System #
3) (The Patch) ZZPerformance - Catalytic Converters #ZZ-CATC
Patch and put money somewhere else (zzp stage 3)? Ideas?
06 SS/SC 2.0

Honestly dont waste money on catback as its not as huge of a performance mod as it is a sound mod.
Money better spend on header and down pipe for sure. What you want out of it is up to you, shorty vs longtubes, catted vs cat.
Good luck with whatever you decide

what is the difference between shorty vs longtubes (other than the length).

moves your powerband around. debate over which gives you more power i dont think has been proven in concrete. I cant speak for others but i got 12 hp and 12 tq from my badmab shorty WITH a retune.

The idea of the exhaust system is to void the engine of exhaust so it doesn't hinder the engine or provide back pressure. So long tube headers seperate where all the exhaust's meet by a greater distance allowing a lower back pressure increasing performance. However long headers are harder to install and might require customization.
So the only advantage to short headers are they're easy to install and take up less room?

so with a shorty i might be able to get more power at lower RPM's but at the cost of power at the upper end?

if you have the capability to do so, make a dyno run, install long tube headers, tune and make a nother dyno run for comparison against my shorty setup. just for fun.
if not no big deal.
by getting going faster soon, wouldnt a shorty setup be better then to get you out of the initial hole? or would the long tube setup be better because after that youll be in mostly upper RPMS? or could it all be determined on the tune? each car will react differently on many factors. But an A-B before after tune to compare against mine with someone who has long tubes would be a good place to start a debate i believe!

depends on the operators prices. I dont even know what the going rate is anymore since ive been on the same tune almost two years. Hoping to pick up a TVS by spring time then I could let you know. We'll see though.

Whats TVS? sorry pretty new to this upgrades thing. these headers/CAT will be my first mech. upgrade. not the way i planned but my hand was forced with the cat being clogged up and all.
Ill look around for Dyno's and im leaning toward these mid length headers so ill try and dyno before and after and maybe we could get a little insight for all of us.

Zzp longtune catteds what i got. Real nice setup, the vband connection is.much batter than the shitty 3bolt stock setup. Sounds great on a stock catback just a tad louder. Power felt the most improved in the high rpms but really is still torqey as **** so idk where the real gains lie.
Oh and fitting it in really isnt hard. Slips in from the top most u might have to do is like move a coolant line ot of the way

So here's the thing, im about to order the mid length header from zzp's site but i need a header gasket aswell as a cat gasket. zzp has them but i can only order one or the other. Under "Add On #1" is a dropdown box, its not like a check box. Id like to change the gaskets when i change the header and cat but do i need both? is this why i can only select one?
So should I...
1) Order it without Gaskets and purchase my own at the local autoparts store?
2) Order it with one Gasket and purchase the other at autoparts store?
3) Order it without and purchase both in autoparts?
4) Order it without and purchase them through ZZP as a separate order?
heres the link again to the package im ordering
