Gm extrude honed manifold

Could someone please look at these pics and tell me if this is what it should look like on the inside? I bought this on Ebay, and I think its a stock one, I expected the extruded one to be glass smooth. Thanks for the help.

Cut his F-ing head off!

Isn't it stamped on the outside (part number)?

I paid $150 shipped, it was a buy it now auction, with a best offer option. I made an offer, and once the auction ended with no one "buying it now" they accepted my offer. They had great feedback and it seemed legit. Here's a link to the auction. http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eB...m=150130926003 There's pictures but no close ups of the inside. I guess I should of asked for some. Oh well, sent them an email, have to wait and see what they say.

Thumbs down

I saw that auction, but I noticed that the seller was one of those drop off places. For all they know, some guy could of just walked in and said this is the extruded honed manifold. Thats what sucks about buying thingd from those type of sellers. Good luck on getting yor refund, make sure you e-mail them the link to all these posts too as proof that all you got was just a regular production manifold.

BTW, did you notice the question and answer that was posted up?

lol, so we have to be stock car racers to understand the difference between a stock part and an extrude honed manifold?

Yeah, noticed the question. Atleast they answered correctly about the part#, and I figured if they knew that much about it, it shoud be legit. I kinda get where they were going with the "stock class" thing, because you cant tell from the outside.

On a different note, it came in a box with Crate engine depot stickers on it. And being that the auction seller is from Tennesee, its probable that the "real" seller is either on here or the redline forums.

Well it has been used, so there's some carbon build up, so I understand that it it wouldn't be glass smooth, what caught my eye, and why I felt it wasnt right, was casting bumps on the inside would be gone on the extrude honed one.

Anyone have an uninstalled one that could post up pics similar to mine to show the difference??? Or post the pics of your stocker you took off to show its the same thing.

Yeah I know that, and the seller has agreed to refund my money upon return of the part, but they still claim that its the extrude honed one. So if someone would post pictures of either one, I could link them to this thread, and show them the error of their ways.

I wish I had taken some pictures of my manifold before I had put it on. I can tell you it didn't look ANYTHING like that. There were no casting bumps or burrs on the inside like that one has.

If thats extruded and honed I would HATE to see the stock part. What I'm getting at is even with carbon deposits it should still look smooth. The carbon will lay evenly, I wouldnt think you'd see the casting either. I have a ported and polished manifold and it looked like before the P&P job...

Just port that thing out and call it a day. Extrude-honing doesn't remove a lot of material, it is just supposed to reduce flow disruptions and smooth everything out. I can do that with a grinder and open up the ports and the choke-down spot at the collector at the same time. I've done two so far and seen nice results with both.

Ok, now I am that pretty much looks exactly like the one I have. Now I have seen a extrude honed intake manifold before, and that thing was perfectly smooth, and bigger than a stock one, but it was also aluminum....

It looks like I might owe the seller an apology

Just for argument sake, can someone post pics of a stock one to show/see the difference?

Thanks for the pics rnjmur. Could you tell me if you could easily tell the difference between the two?

I guess I may have to pull the stock one off the car and take a look. So another question for you guys, do you need a new gasket/bolt set or can you, did you use the original ones?

I replaced the gasket but it was not needed. I really only bought another one to match-port my spare manifold, since I had plenty of time to work it over before install. Just port your own manifold or have me do it, much cheaper than the extrude-honed one and i'm sure at least the same if not more gains.

I don't remember the differences really. I didn't have both manifolds off at the same time next to each other, to actually look at them both.

The hardest part is trying to reach all the bolts. If you can get under the car easily then it shouldn't take too long. I would guess maybe 2 hours tops you should be able to do this yourself.
