Are you looking for a shorty, mid length, or long tube?

If long tube, I say go with the Vibrant header, dp combo.

Its more about where you want your power band. A shorty will give you better low end power, while a long tube setup will give you more top end.

top end is better imo but i think you need good amounts of both to have a fast car

i have felt the best gain with long tube, and long tubes are better for low end and shorts definitely shift the powerband to the high end.

sorry, long tubes give better low end because of the wave reflections in the exhaust and the larger flow inertia in each tube. The wave reflections going at the speed of sound (low pressure waves) reflect back slower because they have more effecive piping to go through since the primaries are longer. At a certain rpm , the wave will reflect to the end of the collectors and then back to the manifold and pull out the exhaust of the other manifold outlet. Because the pressure waves reflect back slower, long tube headers are more efficient at lower rpms.

larger primary pipe diameter increases the rpm of peak power as well as any larger exhaust piping diameter. This is the reason why i couldn't peel out in 2nd anymore when i put on my shorty CA header and a 3" catback because it tuned my car to too high of rpms. Putting on a weapon-r longtube brought back lots of my cars ability at lower rpms, so instead of just peeling out in 1st when it hits 5000 rpm or so, i lose traction from anywhere in 1st and peel out in second for a good couple seconds.

having longer runners would shift the powerband higher though, not lower. because like you said, there is slightly more piping, then the resonating effects of a tuned exhaust system will be at a higher RPM...however, we dont have tuned intake/exhausts, as they really only work at a very narrow RPM range, making for a peaky motor. i would say the reason you lost your low eng power is due to the fact that you got a 3" catback, and not the headers.

i hate to say you're wrong, but if you even look at any thing written about tuning headers, the longer the primaries, the lower the peak power. It is a small range, since the speed of sound is so fast, but the easier way to think about it, is the shorter the primary, the higher the frequency, therefore the higher the rpm.

check out the link and play around with the rpms, see that the lower your rpm maximum, the longer your header should be due to the shift of the peak power.

simple length calculation

And yes, i know the 3" catback effected the hp peak more than the header probably did. But with both effecting my hp curve my rpm efficiency was way over what my car could do or where i would be power shifting at. Thats why i changed to a longer tube header, so that i could keep the 3" exhaust.

I've also heard good things about CTI header, it had a 3" collector and is stainless steel unlike the zzp and priced similar to the vibrant header. CTI Race Header
