Help - Buying SS/SC Tomorrow!

I dont think youll ever find an environment with an airflow smooth enough to get true results on something so "crude", with the highly turbulent air at ground level,
this isnt an aerofoil at 30k feet at a high constant velocity unfortunately...
Im not advocating that this sucker is some highly engineered high downforce aerofoil.
but I cant stand the "wing hater" debate that is usually chock full of incorrect statements.
Im sure the "hyuck hyuck, why yall needs a wing on a FWD anyway" comment is around here somewhere too
basically, its there for looks more than its usefulness imo,
but not JUST for its looks.

Hey guys.
So I'm in the middle of the buying process for the Cobalt SS/SC. I told the sales rep. I wanted a red one with red/black inserts, sunroof, and the G85 package. I also told him I want the stage 2 installed along with GMPP Performance Exhaust in addition to the GM Extrude Honed Manifold. BTW, the total quoted price including these parts installed was quoted at $23,450.
Anyway, he found one at a dealer which is 5 hours away round trip and said it wouldn't arrive until later this evening. Me and a buddy of mine went over later tonight to see if it was there. We found the car sitting in the lot...and it doesn't have the big wing spoiler Don't these models come standard with that big spoiler???
A lot of people on here dislike the wing, but I think it defines the car otherwise, it's a normal Cobalt. I HAVE to have the wing on there...I saw another red SS/SC in the lot with the ring. Is it possible for them to swap out the trunks in order to get the wing? I didn't look closely enough to see if there was a key lock on the trunk either...I'm guessing that should be transferable as well...
What do you guys think?
Also wanted to add I wanted the graphite colored rims but they aren't available for the 07? The only one I can get is the brushed aluminum which looks awful. Maybe I should give it a chance before powder coating?

I agree.. it may have some usefulness.. i guess i'll have to ask GM exactly what it is..
but i'd say there was alot more 'design' done in the aestetics department rather than aerodynamics...

.324 CD apparently, whatever that means...
I'm no aeronautical engineer, but:

Here's my proof of it being somewhat useful!

nice find there man. i never saw that thread.
It doesnt really pertain to downforce...but is showing that its designed to have a low drag effect on the car...
and if they spent time keeping the drag down, that would suggest they spent some time on making it apply some downforce too, it would be silly not to.
Good to know they have obviously spent some engineering/windtunnel time on it.

they didnt say it decreased CD.. just that it was "highly competitive coefficient of drag".. which is so vague it doesnt mean anything..
Formula 1 cars have a CD up around 0.7....
Typically, you sacrifice drag for downforce...
0.324 isnt anything spectacular..
besides, CD is only one factor.. you also need to know frontal area!!! otherwise CD is pointless..

I think we need a GM engineer in here to tell us what the hell they did with this car!!!
EDIT: I also feel bad that this poor guy started a thread asking for help and we've been ranting and raving about this and that and not really offering much help. To the OP, sorry and let us know if we can help more...

well naturally a winged car will have a higher drag,
I know its not going to decrease it...that would be silly....
but the point is they obviously didnt just ask some designers to make a pretty wing and stick it on there.
they have spent some money on engineering to keep the drag of the wing down....which would suggest they probably spent a bit of money making it functional too (downforce)
I think its probably to much to ask that we would get more detailed numbers, as the "general customer" really doesnt care 2 ***** about it anyway lol.
were not really gonna get a highly functional, low drag, high downforce wing, on a cobalt.
Im just heartened that they spent a little money making it more than a stickon design feature.

The Vette needs to be cleaned badly...But the Cobalt will be getting all the attention the next couple weeks
Let the moding begin!
