Post Here's Help For The New GM Spec 2.8 pulley!

Now that the new GM Spec 2.8" pulley is out, there are going to be alot of questions. So I wanted to make a thread that will answer all the questions. Please add questions and answers if I missed something.

Questions....

1. Are 42lb/hr fuel injectors enough for a 2.8" pulley?
2. Do I need a new belt?
3. Do I use 1 step or 2 step colder plugs?
4. Where do I get 1 and 2 step colder plugs?
5. What is the best gap for the plugs?
6. How easy is the pulley swap?
7. Will it void my warranty?
8. Where can I get the GM Spec 2.8" pulley?
9. Can I purchase a GM Stage 2 hub by itself?
10. How much boost does the 2.8 pulley produce?
11. How much HP will I gain?
12. How close is the 2.8" pulley to the supercharger's redline?
13. Where can I buy the GM Stage 2 belt?
14. Do I need to reset the PCM and how?

Answers....

1. Yes, the 42.5lb/hr will be just fine.
2. No the GM stage 2 belt will work just fine.
3. I hear 1 step colder is fine, copper plugs.
4. One step colder plugs http://www.ngk.com/results_cross.asp...kr7e&x=33&y=13
Two steps colder plugs http://sparkplugs.com/results_cross.asp?pid=lfr7a-ix
5. Between .35 and .40 .35 is your best bet IMO!
6. Remove 4 pulley bolts, remove belt, remove pulley, put new pulley on, put the belt back on, tighten bolts on the pulley, done. Very easy!
7. Well I don't think GM techs will know the difference. Technically speaking, yes.
8. Right here http://www.pulleyboys.com/lsj28.html
9. Not yet!
10. About 17.5psi.
11. Approximately 15-18hp.
12. Our supercharger's redline is 16,000rpm. A 2.7" pulley is 15,555rpm. You're safe!
13. Here! Direct Link http://www.crateenginedepot.com/stor...3-P1592C0.aspx
14. Yes. Unplug your negative battery cable for approximately 3 minutes. Hook it back up. All set!

I think 2steps colder is to cold of a plug. Intense is only using one step colder with their Stage 5 kit which runs a 2.5" pulley. Also, there is going to be more knock with the Iridium plugs, I'd stick with copper.

yea, i have a 2.85" pulley with 1 step colder plugs (7 instead of 6) and it runs fine. i have only minor slippage with stock belt and tensioner. stage 2 belt should be perfect. i'm also assuming the reflash will be fine to run with that pulley.

Why not go two steps colder. I meen you can't really say "Because Intense says so" There are other companys out there that recomend 2 steps cooler. So i meen you can't really rule the two steps cooler out of the picture. Also, are you really going to stay at this pulley size? Probably not...So why not go two steps cooler and not have to worry about KR in the short run. Also, when it comes to engine managment are you going to go with something thats "just fine" or are you going to go with something that works best.

I'm not trying to get on anybody's bad side i'm just trying to keep the options open for people who are willing to check it out. So take it for what it's worth and for the people who want to try out the Two Steps Colder plugs (Like myself) Post up your experiences asap after you get the pulley installed so others can benefit also.

you go colder when adding lots of boost because of the heat the plugs will be exposed to. When your engine runs as a daily driver those extreme heat levels are rarely if ever felt so it could be too cold going two steps. If your running like a maniac around a track having 2 steps colder would be better.

Very true and that's a good call.

I updated the thread so it contains a link to 2 step colder plugs for the guys/girls that want them. They are not necessary though!

Great post, answers a lot of questions. I got another one, though. About how much hp do you think we can gain by switching (approximatly). Thanks.

Well for every .1 you take off the pulley size you should gain around 10hp.
Gm Stage 2 pulley is 3"
So a 2.8" pulley should yeild around 15-18hp realistically.

I will update the thread!
