How safe are our Clutch and Axles with Stage II?

I have been reading that people are snapping axles and burning up their clutches with I assume more then a stage II installed.
I know Stage II has been tested but I am curious as to how well our stock clutch and axles will hold up? I also have a GMPP sport exhaust on order.

Regards,

Jason

You may get lucky and never have a problem, or you may not.

People have blown axles at stock power levels.

If you feel even slight wheel hop back off of it INSTANTLY

and yes our stock clutches are a joke as well.

Even if you let off instantly, there's a good chance they'll snap! I am a victim of both the axle and clutch problem. Axle upgrade and some serious power adders when I get home though!

Yeah I backed off at the first little hop, and still blew one. That was all it took for me to upgrade

I don't ever want to be stranded again. Now I just hafta make up my mind on what clutch I wanna go with. In the meantime I will beat the **** out of the stocker and hope it dies gracefully

The stock clutch went like a week after Stage 2 was installed. The axle snapped with just an intake! I went with the ClutchMasters Stage FX300. At first it sucked because the first designs didn't work, but now that it was redesigned due to my "test fits," I absolutely love it!

gm will fix the clutches if

1 they can get the clutch to slip and

2 they dont have an excuse why the clutch is fucked (tire tread low excetera)

i was a victim of number 1.... since my clutch didnt slip on them they said they couldnt do anything about it..

by axel do you guys mean the driveshafts. I'm not good with part names or locations. I noticed that intense has some driveshafts good for 400 WHP for 799.00

Yup that's what we're talking about. driveshaft, axle, halfshaft, all talking about the same parts

And here's my install thread for the Driveshaft Shop axles I bought from Intense

Yes, and there are two for our car. $799 for the pair is definately money well spent

Oh, I ordered the clutch from Turbo Tech racing originally. It's much cheaper now, but I would probably go with the Exedy this time as they have an awesome flywheel/clutch combo.

I have almost 16,000 miles on my car. I have stage 2 and MANY other mods. My brother has about the same amount of miles on his Saturn Redline and has more mods and hasnt had problems either.

I am starting to believe its the driver and not the clutch that is the problem. My clutch has NEVER slipped once. Only problem I have with it is when launching from a high RPM and trying to get it to grab and also if you do a 1st - 2nd shift while your tires are spinning it will act a bit funny, but everywhere else its 100% like day 1.

I'm a damn good driver, and I don't ride the clutch. The stock clutch sucks period. My friends will constest as they saw it slip several times right after I put on Stage 2. Before Stage 2 it was fine, and I never had a problem. I have the FX300 CM clutch now, and not a single damn problem.

Maybe in some cases, but I've been driving manual for over a decade, and know hot to drive.

My clutch has only slipped twice, and both times it slipped after the 1-2 shift was completed, and after my tires chirped when second gear grabbed.

That is not riding the clutch, my left foot was totally disengaged, and I was accelerating when it happened.

And my axle blew in almost the same way, launched in first spun pretty bad backed off a bit, shifted into second, wheelspin turned into wheelhop, and before I could back off, boom.

Now I'm not saying that the stock clutch can't hold the power, as most of the time it does. But there are instances, where it won't. And these are not always caused by driver error.

As for the axles, if you launch your car, and ever get wheelhop, these can and will break, even at stock power levels. If you've seen where our stock shafts taper than you'll see why. Maybe not all will go in their first year,,, but what about 3 years down the road??? All those launches will add up. every time you get wheel hop you send tons of force through the axles, and possible begin that twist process that leads to total failure

For, me axles were a no brainer. I would have broken another stocker for sure, and $800 was a good investment to know it wouldnt be the axle

As for the clutch, we know my axles aren't breaking, so I will gladly be the guinea pig and try to find out more about when and why these things fall short.

how safe are they with stage2? It depends on the driver man, 5k rpm feathering wont help the clutch any, just an example.
