How to swap pulleys?

Aside from the blue bolt for gm. Is there a tenionsor that i can loosen to have slack in the belt or is it a spring loaded tensionor? Would it be ok to swap to he head bolts as long as they are the same lenth and pitch as the blue bolts?

Also taking the blower off is that necissary to change pulleys? Is it hard to take the blower off?

The tensioner is located behind (toward back of engine) of the supercharger.. you use a size 15mm open ended wrench and push down on the little square looking *** on the tensioner.

Yes, you can use any bolts you'd like.

Taking off the supercharger takes all of 10 minutes.. very easy.

Yea... thats the point of the tensioner.

you have to keep it pushed down and remove the belt from the s/c...

If you keep a little tension on the belt so it doesnt move.. then no..

If the belt moves off of the pulleys then you gotta do what ya gotta do.

When you try to unscrew the bolts, wont the supercharger pulley and impellers spin? how do you prevent that, just hold on real tight?

The bolts on the pulley?... They can... depends where you try to get your leverage from.

Now when I put some bolts back in. Do I use lock tight or lock washers? Or do I need anythin? I know the vibration can cuz screws to unscrew. Do I have to worry about that?

Undo the bolts on the pulley while the belt is still on and tensioned ...it helps stop most movement.......unless they are locktited or over torqued. When you take the belt off the pulley keep it held up so it doesnt fall off the bottom pulleys or else its a bitch to reroute it . I never used locktite or washers when i swapped pulleys, my bolts never loosened up .

If you leave the SC on the car use a little screwdriver (when installing the new pulley)to line up the holes in the pulley and hub or else you will be fishing around trying to find them for awhile.

Honestly it used to take me 5 minutes to swap a pulleys with the SC on the car, but its easier to just pull the SC if the bolts are too tight to get off or have locktite on them.

O snaps you don't have a sc anymore? That's cool but thanks for the info. So what screws did you use? I got the ones from smoothflow! They won't vibrate out?

I reused the stage 2 bolts . I prolly had them in and out 6-7 times and never had any issues with them lossening up.

One another note ....I miss my SC , I really miss the whine , it's so unique . I really like the TC , but the SC is a lot closer.... performance wise .... than most turbo guys would like to admit hehe.

O ok and never had a problem with them fallin out? Ok what about striping em out? Did gm install your stage 2 kit? If so did they use lock tight?

And what you mean the sc is a lot closer performance wise than the tc guys like to admit? And if I sold mine I'd miss the whine also. You don't pay it mind until its gone lol

I installed the kit so no locktite. Never had any problems stripping them out or anything.

The SC vs TC thing is just an observation lol, i guess i have a tinge of buyers remorse hehe.

The missing the whine till it's gone thing is so true........I never even though about it ......till I wasn't able to hit the gas and hear it .

So you guys suggest tightening the bolts with the belt on?

The reason I ask is because I'm getting ready to install my SC kit and I bought a 3.0 polished pulley. I was installing the pulley onto my SC while it was sitting on the bench. I had to use a combination of another hex socket and screwdriver while using my torque wrench in order to be able to tighten them.

The pulley got a little scratched up. Once I get my car up and running I plan to order a 2.9 pulley and don't want to fugg the pulley up the next time.

I also purchased a pulley boys tension relief tool so that should be a little easier with the belt and all.

A strap wrench would work good to. The serpentine belt usually provides enough pressure to tighten them down thou.

Would it be better to loosen the tensionor before or after the bolts are loosened?

My friend mentioned a strap wrench yesterday as well. Good suggestion.

You would certainly want to remove the pressure once you've loosened the bolts.

After .... Need the tension to help hold the pulley from turning.
