I have some choices to make
Firstly I am sorry if this topic does not belong here but I think it does.
I just got my 2007 cobalt SS supercharged and I wantedf to put some GMPP parts on it OR get a nice sdound system.
I wqas wondering if you all could help me think of which desision is more practical for my uses?
I go to college where there are a few "hills" and it snows 5 months out of the 8 months or so of school. During the summer I am home where EVERHYTHING is flat and very hot outside.
I know the SS/SC stock is very speedy as it is, but everyone hearing of extra horsepower would do anything for the parts haha.
Anyway, I love music and a nice sound system with labor would cost the SAME price as a stage 2 kit and ZEX spark plugs (around $1000 for either)
SO basically should I get the stage 2 if I REALLY dont drive THAT much during college? Is the luxery of a sound system much more appealing? Or is the extra 40-50 horsepower and TQ worth the money even if I dont drive thaqt much during school?
I am leaning towards the sound system, but having a fast car could always be good too....
Only have money for one.
Thanks

I personally think the stock sound system is one of the best factory setups ive seen.
Im not into audio nearly enough to replace something that already sounds great (imo)

Go for performance, then upgrade the sound system. I am big into sound systems as well and honestly I still have the pioneer setup in my cobalt. It still sounds good but is a lot more fun to drive with the extra power.

yea the stock sound system is pretty good for coming from the factory...I say if you want a lil more bump upgrade your sub and maybe even an amp and then spend the rest on GMPP parts. just think about it this way what would you rather tell people when they ask you what you got done to your car.....GMPP Stage 2 or an upgraded audio system.

im gonna let you in on a secret , this site is a more performance oriented forum, infact if you do anything not directed twords more speed you will get atleast 1 person calling you a ricer
tell us this, what is it you want out of your car? cause on public roadways the highest limit i have seen is 65, the cobalt gets to that just fine w/o stage II
if you like to take it to the track, the stage II will help, where as a system will add more weight
it all comes down to what you want out of your car

I don't know if this factors into your decision or not, but the stage 2 kit should only run you up to about $750 ($550+$200 for install), not $1000. However, I say go for performance. Ever since I got the GMPP exhaust last week I haven't felt the need to even turn the radio on .

My chevy dealer said they wont do it for less then $1025....and I asked around, too.

stage it yourself... FOR CHEAP... get a 3" pulley and hub, some 42lb injectors, and get someone w/ hptuners to flash it for u... it'll run u about 300-400... then use the rest of the money for ur audio needs...
going "gm" staging is good, but u can do it urself for a lot cheaper

I went sound system first then performance only because I didn't know about any of the gmpp for our cars at the time. If I had to do it again, i would go performance first. Good luck with your choice.

You could throw some decent subs in there to replace the factory one, and an amp to push em and call it a day. Cheap, and sounds bangin, trust me. I have two Fosgate 10's pushed by one Massive D Class 1,000.1 watt amp, and I have no need to turn it up all the way. Vibrates EVERYTHING...
That being said, now that you would be saving money on the stereo....PERFORMANCE FTW!!!

a little off topic but do you think i could buy the stock poineer sub/amp combo from the dealership? like the stock system is wicked but if its decent enough price why not get another, put it on the otherside...
back on topic, dont pay to get your system installed, maybe a deck if your doign that but a sub is simple, not to mention, if u didnt notice the battery is in the trunk, so to hook up a sub it would take like 10 minutes.you dont have to run wires or anything, just to the deck.

dont buy the s2 kit from the dealer.... they want to charge a ton. buy it from crateenginedepot.com. then for a few hundred, you could buy a shallow mount sub for your stock sub box and pick up an amp and some wireing. then you have both!

i didnt look at any amps yet, but thats not hard to find...... the sub box is perfect for this new sub too!

if i were you, i would get the SSC springs, and a 3" pulley. like $300 total. then throw an amp to the sub, or get another one from somebody who has replaced their sound system. the best of both worlds for the same price. (this is assuming you're kind of handy... cause if something goes wrong, you'll have to take off the pulley and throw the stock one back on)

Well let's see here, if you add an aftermarket system that will add weight. Which will inturn make your car slower.
The stock system is VERY good, the only other system better is the one dodge/jeep offers with the boston acoustics.
You could keep the stock system throw in an indash dvd later and be good to go. Then when that kid that has louder bass than you pulls next to you , you can leave him in a cloud of smoke with your SS/SC STG2

It was running fine but what were your IDC's?

you will NOT void ur warranty... there is no way the dealership can say **** about a smaller pulley... it's not like they're gonna take out ur injectors and look at them, and they certainly can not see the tune on ur car
stage kits come from the factory, if u get something equal to that, u can not void your warranty, and if they give you ****, the magnuson moss act will be your best friend
