Honestly you should do what mrvelvedere said, go read the forums, read the stickies and learn about the words, what parts do and the technical side before you start just buying parts. If you dont understand the drop downs on zzp's site then...this may be a little over your head at the moment. Learn some, then come back. we are here to help, but asking us to hold your hand and pick the parts for you is not a good idea.
If you have to get the kit now because you cant wait, then I would suggest the GM stage 2 kit from CED that includes the stage 1 parts. Then have the dealer install it. Its safe, the dealer installs, keep your warranty if you have it.

well here is my thinking. Get the gm stage 2 (w/ 1) if you have the money to buy and get it installed. Its one of the kits that is install and forget. I'd say its slightly more reliable than a pieced together kit.
Once you go with ottp or zzp's kit you will HAVE to know more about the parts, the tune, troubleshooting. Its not that they cant be reliable but they are pushing your car more than stock or a gm stage kit. so you need to be prepared for issues.
So it depends on what you want, you spend a little more money, get a little less power for more DD reliable. Or you can spend some money, get more power but you better know some things or it may leave you stranded or limp mode.

OP, do what northvibe says. Start small, and work your way up as you learn more about your car. Don't listen to half the people on this site. GM Stage 2 produces a nice bump in power that you will be sure to enjoy.

16-17 lbs of boost means nothing .... That doesnt mean you are making a lot of power bud. It's hard to believe people still rave about their boost levels.

OP, I'd say everyone is pretty much hitting the nail on the head. Just take some time and read through a bunch of threads, ask questions, and it will all come to you much quicker than you may think. Its not overly complicated, but there are some methods that are proven and some that are less efficient and/or reliable. I've been modding for several years now, but am still new to the Cobalt world. Luckily, I know perfectdisquise (from mustangforums) and also have a local GM tuner. They have helped guide me in the right direction on this one. The difference is I'm familiar with these parts and what they do, just not sure about which combo is the best for me and what I want out of the car. I ended up going with the OTTP Stage 2 with a 2.8 multi pulley, 60lb injectors, GM belt, colder plugs, etc. I'm having mine custom tuned with HP tuners locally. Feel free to pm me, man. I'll help you anyway I can.

correct, I just read an import tuner where a civic is running 19psi and has 700hp about. I would suggest not getting gm, I didn't and I am glad. They put so many restrictions on their tunes and have limited gains. Unless you want to keep a warranty or something. Since your a beginner i would go with ottp stage 1.
Their tune is conservative (excluding GM Stage 3), but still makes decent power. You couldnt expect GM to go ***** to the wall and still maintain a warrenty, right?

I have a zzp stage 3 with a 2.8 and I am putting down between 14-16 pounds and about 250-260 to the wheel. The thing that you have to remember is that adding all the parts is good and all but to get the most out of those parts is a good tune. I'm using the stock ZZP "canned" tune and its ok for a dd and all but I need to get a custom tune to get the most out of as well. Also look into cooling mods before adding a lot of power. I have a larger stage 3 heat exchanger and my intake temps dropped a decent amount even from stock. But you may want to look into supporting modifications before hand. The forum is a great tool just look at the post's in the technical and how to sections and for lack of a better word "wise" up on the verbage that is used here. Glad to see that you have an interest in mods and pm me if you have any question I'll be more than happy to help out as I can.
