Ingalls or motor mount!?
So as I am installing my performance parts on my Cobalt I am looking at this Ingalls Torque damper. Cool thing great concept. however... what is the point of having an Ingalls if you have polyurethane motor mounts and tranny mounts?
Just want some feedback.

if you have mounts, the ITD is pointless, i had the ITD first , it helpd with wheel hop on the street ,and its great if you dont want to deal with vibrations , but for track use it dosnt hold up. i was going to get traction bars and see if the a ITD and traction bar combo would work, but insted i went the cheap rout and got engine mounts , the mounts fixed the wheel hop..... i recently just gave the stiffy to my wife ...after i gave her the ITD<joke drum roll> but anyway, i cant tell a diffrence now that its gone.

How bad are the vibrations? Does it mellow out over time? I had polyurethane mounts on my cavalier. It was rough the first few months, then it mellowed out a bit. I thought that the mount wore and broke, but after inspection, it was fine.

they're not that bad. you get used to them. people make it seem SO much worse than it is. i feel them a little in reverse, and when going from a stop. when driving they're barely noticeable. and when you feel the difference you don't care about the vibes.

the torque dampener is easyer to put on and will produce less vibrations but the motor mounts are more effective. so its a matter of taste really.

Which top smm do you guys recommend? Bwoody or TTR?
I would ask the RLF guys but they sexually slurp Bwoody in their sleep! Its pretty pathetic.
And what about using a top smm (either TTR or Bwoody) along with a lower Ingalls TD? Or is that is a waist of time?
The reason I ask is because I don't want to go with a full smm set up because of the vibes. But with the lower Ingalls I could leave it loose for daily driving and then crank it down for the track.

B Woody complete set is $260 (Trans and upper enginemount)
Turbo Tech Racing compete set is $239.98 (Upper mount and both trans bushings)
We also have a unique "square" bushing deisgn, that is specifically designed around this engine, and is not an "off the shelf bushing" It will help keep rotational forces down and also dampens the vibrations very well.

i don't trust torque dampers to make a huge difference. I had a torqueforward front and rear mount (which is probably a little worse in quality than ingall though) and i still wheel hopped and the there were still large vibrations from the rear mount as well as rattling.
Stiffer trans mounts FTW - I just got done filling in my transmission bushings with 3M black polyurethane windo weld for extra added stiffness. Its temporary til i build up enough money for full replacement mounts, but it helps put the power down and allows for smoother shifts and it only cost me $14.99. Slight extra vibrations from a stop, but its definitely no where near as stiff as replacement polyurethane mounts or prothane bushings.

When i do get an upper motor mount.. it definately will be TTR, their design is much more effective IMO
... the way i explained it to by friend who didnt understand why i thought it was better was this ----- squeeze one extended finger with your other hand and rotate.. spins pretty easily... now squeeze three extended fingers with your other hand and rotate.. not easy at all... cheap explaination but worked for him
all i have is both trans bushings right now.. the vibs are not bad at all and i HATE vibs with a passion.. my car is not a race car so i dont want it to feel like one u kno lol

im looking into a set of tranny mounts right now iv e had a ingalls torque brace since about 6 months after i bought the car so the motor mounts seem fine but the tranny are just about destroyed im thinking about gravanna or tubtech press in polyurithane and they are close in price think they are giong to make a differance

ebristol - Why would you replace your stock aluminum casings for those welded up steel ones? You are not really getting any more for your money.
That is why inserts are popular, there is no need to put on a whole new tranny mount.
Also, the bushings are SO small on the B woody mounts you will get A LOT of vibrations.

im not afraid of vibrations torcue brace gave me alot of that are they some what easy to install
at idle with just the ac on the tranny side moves alot and the pulley side does not move at all
