Intermediate Shaft Removal Help

Is there anything special that needs to be done or will it just pull out of the transmission? I know the axle should slide off with some effort, but unsure about the shaft to the transmission

you trying to get the axel out of the intermediate shaft? if so , leave the shaft bolted into the car and just put an extension on the the backside of the axel and hit it with a mallet and it will pop right out.

But yes, just unbolt and it pulls right out.

its really easy man, no how too needed, once you see for yourself you'll understand. only three bolts and it slides out.

Its easy unless the intermediate shaft and axel are stuck togethor really good. I ended up having to take mine to a shop to get them taken apart.

so most are just buying an entire new shaft instead of just the bearing?

The bearing must be attached to the new shaft?

Is anyone buying new seals for anything?

I've laid under the car and stared at this many of times now...I thought I had to remove the entire right axles, knuckles and what not to get it out...Sounds like you can just leave that all be and just unbolt the bracket thingy.

no i assumed you meant after the axle was removed, steps for complete removal
1. wheel
2. large retainer nut
3. rotor
4. wheel bearing/spindle
5. axle(use a 1/2" or 3/4" extension on the back side of the CV joint with mallet)
6. carrier bearing(3 bolts then the whole shaft comes out)

am sure i forgot some odds n ends like sway bar links and strut bolts, but its mostly common sense.

you remember the size of the retainer nut...I still have yet to get a socket to fit that bitch

I've done simple stuff to my car buy never removed that axles before...Each thing I do I learn something new! ....So on the inner CV joint I need to hit it with a mallet towards the wheel well? Do not take the boots off right?

bear with me, Im a noob

yes on the inner cv, no on the boot removal, i wanna say the retainer nut is like 30mm iirc
oh yah helps if you have someone pressing on the brake pedal when you break loose that retainer nut.

So u picked up an entire new shaft and The bearing comes with the new shaft?

About how much was the part and who did u buy if from?

Did u replace it due to a steering wheel wobble?

it didnt need replaced. i needed to do that to remove my jbp vortex header. now before anyone goes off and says "should have just unbolted the steering rack....blah blah blah", The header was unbolted and i was trying to wiggle it out. couldnt get it, it was late so i called it a night. the next day my dad actually tried to help and ended up wedging it in the way so i couldnt loosen anything to take it out. I had to do it the hard way and remove the intermediate shaft. all is well now.
