lol driving>you
my friend and i beat on his clutch constatly...high-rpm launches, burnouts, high-rpm downshifts, you name it. i guess we just know how to drive the thing...his clutch hasn't had a SINGLE problem, it still bites like it was brand new.
i'm absolutely convinced that everyone on here who is having problems with their stock clutch is just either a bad, inexperienced, careless, or stupid driver. i mean, the cluthes are supposed to be good to way over the power most people are putting down, and it's not like it's a weak clutch.
to be honest, i think a lot of it has to do with most of the SS/SC owners are young drivers who wanted an affordable, sporty car, and they don't have a lot of experiance. or, maybe, this is someone's first manual. or, maybe they're just too spirited and aren't very conciensious of their clutch.
i dunno. $0.02

Mine used to slip a lot shifting between 1st and 2nd. I've got 13,000 miles on the car now, and it hardly ever slips anymore... could just be it takes a long time to break in or something.

My car as 19k miles on the stock clutch and I beat on it a fair amount. A couple burnouts here and there (tires to expensive for to many of those), downshifting a lot, and good amount of launches and its still grabbin. Once in a great while it'll slip one the 1-2 upshift but its only done that a few times. Discofreak is right, its gotta be peoples driving.
One thing I see people doing A LOT is halfway engaging the clutch and flooring the gas. That is horrible for your clutch. It may help with getting better launches(or at least seem like it) but your askin for your clutch to go glaze over if you do that often.

sorry, i wasn't trying to make it seem as if every young driver was bad. i'm 17 for crying out loud. it just seemed to me that the people who are blaming the clutch slipping on GM obviously think they're driving perfectly, when it's apparent that they're not.

stupidity on your part..... you should of had the dealership replace the stock one with a performace one, since your car is modified, and they were doing it for free.. This way you dont have to pay for labor, if i was the dealership and i saw how much boost you were running i wouldnt cover it under warranty....
I think you got lucky they replaced it the first time.

Im gonna take a flying wild guess here...and say you spun all the way through first. slammed it to second, droped the clutch and floored that 250+hp at a speed that is far to low to hit second.
seen it done a hundred times.
you do realise that clutches will slip in ANY car if you dont drive it properly right?

It's not generally possible to substitute a customer supplied performance clutch on a warranty job as the dealership will STILL have to purchase a stock clutch from GM in order to get paid by GM warranty for doing the job. (that's how the system works) There may be ways around that though, if you can convince them to "eat" the clutch but not bloody likely

i have feathered the clutch on every vehicle i owned. (lived in the app. mountains.).. my ranger got a clutch at 117k due to me blowing the lil 7.5" rear to pieces... my focus had 50k when i swapped it out and it had 50% life on it, when i had my escort it had 140k on the original clutch. contour has 70k on it now and still is driven daily now by my brothers friend.
all vehicles were beat very hard. hence the blown rear and faced a ton of traffic... the focus was raced a ton that way and never skipped a beat so seeing first hand on not just my vehicle but another 100 or so that will not kill your clutch. if it does anything it makes the fingers weaker.
as of now im at 2500 miles and all is well... i know once i hit about 30 the clutch will be removed for flywheel and new clutch for other reasons.
never liked stock :P

If you take a straight edge to the pressure plate it is warped really bad the disk only makes contact for an inch of the plate. I know the tech that did my clutch the last time and he said their weak and if i bought a centerforce that he would put it in under warrenty
