Let's Spice Things Back Up In Here. S257FMW Turbo Time
Well things are kinda boring around here so I decided to fire this thread up just cause. I decided to ditch my S252ET in my LSJ-T and pick up an S257FMW from OTTP. I live in Canada and drive down to Merica to fill up drums of E85 so I can run E47. I do shift work so its taken a bit to get things organized and done with this project. In the spring I pulled the trigger on an S257FMW and Walbro 450 fuel pump from OTTP to upgrade my car. I had a problem with major boost drop to redline the last couple years no matter what I did. Turns out my set up was outflowing the S252ET.
With Infraredline as my tuner we started at it yesterday. I installed a mini AFC from ZZP so I can turn the boost up and down on the fly. But the base map he sent was pretty damn good for what we needed. Wastegate pressure makes around 22psi. We decided to turn it up a little to 24psi but quickly noticed this turbo compared to my 252 builds boost all the way to redline. Started at 24 and would end at 26psi by 8000rpm. Going to keep pushing tuning wise and I will be hitting the rollers shortly. Here's what's under the hood for those who don't know. Stay tuned
- Gen 3 Stock Short Block
- ZZP Turbo Kit
- S257FMW Turbo
- 80 lb Injectors
- BRFPS
- Supertech 75lb Valve Springs
- Ported And Polished Head By Lsjion
- ZZP Stage 2 Cams
- ARP Head Studs
- ATI Damper

Everyone that I've seen break these motors (rods) have been well under what I'm making for power. I know we had the discussion in another thread about this motor. ZZP made over 500whp with an LDK in an LNF all summer when they first started to sell this motor as a short block. That's why they pushed "makes over 500whp in its stock form" for a couple years. Now they put a disclaimer that they recommend pistons and rods past 400whp to cover their ass.
I'm gonna push this LDK and see what it does. If it snaps a rod, well then I'll deal with it when I get there haha. If it survives, it will get pistons and rods over the winter and I'm going to crank up the boost.

Lol! Thanks Mike. The car is feeling really good. It's on 27psi right now and still may turn it up slightly more for kill on the dyno. I've been stupid busy at work but tuning is coming to a close and it's almost ready for the rollers.
Heres a couple quick car and motor shots. I'll have vids up soon enough haha.

I'll be strapped on to the rollers Monday. I tried this dynojet 2 years ago and they had issues with reading a tach signal. Seems to be a common issue with Cobalts there for whatever reason. But they changed a few things and my buddy with his LSJ-T worked last week so I'll give it another shot. They said if they can't get the tach signal to read after a pull they will just unstrap me free of cost.

Well started my birthday off right this morning getting in the rollers. Was kinda hoping for a little more than I made but was a super humid morning. And really I don't know what to expect with this Gen 3 motor and turbo set up. I've kinda been the Guinea pig for it lol. Those who say LDK rods are weak are wrong though lol.
I was having some sort of issue on top end judging by the graph. Interceptor showed no knock. I forgot my computer, was going to log the runs. But there's still a little head room left if I can flatten the curve out up top.
505whp/368wtq on 30psi
