I'm guessing the hammer knocks those plastic shavings off so the magnet can catch again? Maybe taking a hammer to the intercooler pump should be part of the recommended 30/60/90 k maintenance schedule...

Even if the car is stock, the intercooler pump should start running with the key in the "on" posisiton and the car off. What some people have been doing with HPT is making the pump run when only under accessory power. Just turn the key and you should hear a faint whine under the hood if it's working.

maybe, the only way i figured that out is i took the old faulty pump apart, the plastic shavings are the consistency of dust. the turbine impeller for the pump sits in this cup that basically acts as a journal bearing, it has a magnet in it. on the electric motor there is a magnet on the shaft that spins. if you get the shavings in there the pump stops working or works intermittently.

so....could we take the pumps apart from time to time and clean them out to prevent any build-up and stoppage of the pump??

sounds like a good fail-safe maintenance plan to me...

When i had my cobalt mine went out on me. The only way i knew was that my iat2's went soaring. So i figured something was up.

Not likely. The intercooler system is completely separate from the engine cooling system.

IDK, it is a separate system, it is a chain driven pump that runs off the timing chain.

Isn't this pump failure covered under warranty?

I dont like this article. It makes me worried that my pump is gonna go soon. Ive been running for about 2-3 weeks with my CX h/e on. Is the filler neck supposed to be filled to the top or is it supposed to be like an inch from the bottom?
