Mileage w/Supercharger
What's up? I have been looking for a SS/SC and one has finally come up for sale. I will probably be test driving in next few days. Problem is it has just over 62K miles. How many miles do these superchargers last? I mean, if car is well taken care of, I would not expect anything to happen until around 100K but I would like to hear from someone with high mileage, a supercharger, and mods done to it. How was the reliability? Thanks for any feedback!

I would be really careful purchasing these cars used. I bought mine used as a Certified GM and full factory bumper to bumper and powertrain warranties. I don't race/mod or beat on the car and it has been in for numerous repairs for transmission internals breaking. You don't know unless you over look the hell out of the car to find out its past. Check for warranty blocks, carfax and do some visible looking/take a mechanic with you.
Forgot to mention all these issues started around 23k and still exist now @ 30k....also beware of the dealership they will do what it takes to void any and all warranties >.<

Just to counter the guys who say they have issues, I've had my car since day 1 and I have almost 78k on it now with some pretty decent mods and the car has been flawless. Only thing I've ever fixed on it was... nothing . I had to take it in for the GM power steering recall but that's the only time it's ever "needed" work and it probably didn't even need it. I'm developing an EVAP issue so that'll be the first real failure on the car in almost 78,000 miles. Not bad.
Just like with buying any used car, it truly is just luck of the draw. I've bought some awesome used cars and some that were nightmares. You just never know.

I fully 100% agree with billig...as you see he has had the car since brand new. I wish I had mine since brand new I would have never encountered the problems I am I'm sure of it....of course those of you who don't know I will be pursuing a GM dealer in the court of law for illegally and negligence of professional repairs. That is why I say beware of the dealer you choose....

i've got 43K on mine......bought it stock with 28K and still don't have any issues. Took the car in for the power steering recall and I relaced the old timing chain tensior with the updated one. The tensior was fine but wanted to replace just in case. Oh and my key fobs stopped working but thats it. Just do your homework about these cars before you buy one and have a trusty mechanic look it over.

I also agree with Billing, I have a bit over 50k on my car as you can see in my sig with all my other mods, I have never had a problem with the car except the clutch and the only reason I had a problem with the clutch was because of me, Operator Error, and it wasnt by accident lol, I was showing off in front of friends doing burnouts all the way up a hill, which I hardly ever really do anything to my car, and my buddy said dude your gonna burn up your clutch and my excuse was well then Ill have the excuse to buy a better one which I did lol... But point is all thought I dont do that any more and I totally love this car I have never had this car give me any issues, and I bought this car brand new in the beginning of 2007. But I would buy a new cobalt TC this way you can raise it into what you want it to be and its new lol. Good luck man. Supercharged for life!

I'm about to roll 50K on my used 2007 SS/SC and I have yet to have any issues aside from the H/E pump which was fixed under warranty. I do have a few suspension issues to take care of, but that is not uncommon for a car with this mileage driven on the garbage we call roads in the midwest.
I couldn't agree more about used cars being a roll of the dice. You can scrutinize them all you want, at the end of the day sometimes things break. I've had great looking used cars turn out to be dogs and had rough junkers turn out to be super reliable.
I can understand wanting to buy a car with a stock pulley, but I'd also stay away from cars that are mostly stock with "tasteless" mods as these cars tend to be owned by younger less responsible drivers and despite the fact that horsepower is still at close to stock levels the cars are likely to have a lot of wear.

Awesome feedback! Glad to hear there are some long running SS/SC on here. Just out of curiosity, are there any rebuild kits for the stock supercharger available? I know there is the TVS supercharger kit, which is totally awesome and a viable replacement if need be, but just curious about kits? You can rebuild a turbo, why not a SC?
