MSD Ignition on the LSJ help needed
I visited this topic about 2 years ago and didn't really find an answer. I know that the ecotec race engines use the Digital 7 with the MSD8498 distributor, the blaster coil.
What I'm trying to find is some type of diagram that shows how to hook this thing up to get it running on a stock ecu LSJ. I know its possible, it can be done on the L61 I had it on my cavalier.
Anyone have any contacts with any of the racing teams that run ecotecs that might be able to shed some light on this. Before you say the stock ignition is fine, your wrong while it may be "good enough" it certainly doesn't deliver the spark an MSD does, my cav was like night and day with that thing on, so so smooth with an MSD on. I'm seeking to have that kinda system on my LSJ.
Build book lists the following parts
Drag Race
msd 75314 digital 7 box
msd 8261 pro power hvc 2 coil
msd 8498 ecotec distributor
msd 32769 spark plug wires
Endurance under 40psi Booneville
Msd 7531 digital 7
msd 8251 pro power hvc coil
msd 8498 ecotec distributor
msd 32769 spark plug wires
DIS system (up to 600hp on gasoline)
MSD62153 DIS 4 box
msd 8207 blaster SS coils OR
Honda CBR 1000 coil on plug coils

If that was the case, the car would still run like **** with the bypass plug in.All the power connections were done at the battery.I dont know,i just dont trust msd.Maybe there other ignition boxes are good though.

the dis boxes are hit and miss, the other stuff is solid. however, if your building a street car, id venture away from a digital 7, thats a race box, way overkill on a street car, and likely wont last. something like a 6al or the new digital 6a is plenty for a street car.

if your going COP, you have to run a dis box, no way around it. if your running the ecotec distributor, then the dis box wont work. the dis2 seems to have an especially poor track recored, i know 5 people that had failures within about 6 months, 1 person has 3 boxes fail. the dis 4 seems to do a little better though.

one question.
why are you so dead set on doing this?
the gm drag cars that do this have an aem or FAST set up on them with a throttle cable. they use the dizzy for a cam trigger

im pushing more power, and rev higher and have zero problems from 0-8k rpms. other people with more power than me are running stock ignition systems and have zero problems. i personally don't understand the obsession with it

as stated in other threads people are having alot of issues with spark blowout at high psi levels and gapping plugs sub .030 is much less effective than simply fixing the root cause which is weak spark
we need to get this figured out
so someone must know how to get ahold of one of the gm race teams to try to get this figured out i know they use it
