i gotta admit, ive helped friends do things liek this, however it was with cheaper, older cars. helped a guy do a dryer hose intake on his sunbird. ive seen guys make snorkles for 4x4s out of abs, it actually works great for that.
you would be much better off using the factory air piping and airbox and just doing the "airbox mod". the factory intake piping isnt so bad.

The factory intake piping works very well.
The restrictive part of the factory intake is the stock filter. Replace it with a high flow unit, and you are set. I did a comparison between my old Injen intake & my current setup (factory donaldson intake w/ modified airbox & K&N E-0777), and saw an almost 2 lbs/min airflow increase. I've tested so many different intakes on my car, and saw little to no difference between any of them.
