N. California tuner charging $600 to tune Cobalts!
Wow is all I can say! I have found 2 tuners in this area and the cheapest one is $600. Thats pretty outrageous. They do my Z06 for $450, but I cant imagine why the $150 difference between the 2 cars.

Thats really sick man. One of my soldiers used to tune cars in Japan before he joined the Army and offered to road tune my ride for me. Then again, I don't know if I want a tuner who specializes in Japanese motors with almost no HPT experience to tune my car. Not saying he couldn't do it, just that it would take him a lil to get comfy and I don't want my car to blow up.

Yea the places that do alot of Vettes around here using HPtuners are a little apprehensive in doing the Cobalts for some reason. Probably they dont have alot of experience with them yet cause there aint many around here.
Im about tempted to buy HPtuners and start doing it myself.

HPtuners is 700 bucks so if someone is trying to charge you 600 to tune your car you might as well spend the extra 100 and do it yourself.

Its not something you can just jump right into and do it. Quite a bit of reading and learning to do and lots of options on different adjustments. Id probably learn it on some POS car till I was comfortable with it on my nicer ones.

$150 per hour x 4 hours = $600
Seems kind of reasonable to me considering they expect to put the car on the dyno, tune it, take it off, road test and tune.
Its not like cobalts are especially fun to tune, they have alot less functions with hpt then with the big v8's.

We have alot of Nor Cal meets if you want to go to some.
Its alot easier to tune a N/A car. Thats probably why it cheaper.

Hey how much did your SSC springs lower you car? He wants the Eibach Sportlines, but im researching some other options. Just dont wanna jump in to buying certain brands too fast (like our Fujita CAI which was a POS fit) before see all the options since the Eibachs arent actually for the 07's they say but im trying to find out why. I want to get a wideband/gauge now though as I think thats the most important gauge to have on the car now as the 2.85 pulley is going on as soon as we get the damn red loctited bolts off!

It makes it SO much easier if you have someone who knows how to tune teach you how, and the better they are the easier you will learn because they will understand any problems you may have with the learning process as they have been in your spot at one point in time.

The Balt is actually my sons car, but I do most of the posting (altho he does have his own name on here and post a little bit) with questions and such since I do most of the wrenching on it while he helps and learns.

You and your son are invited to any of the meets we have. This weekend were actually going to install a set of the ssc springs on a friends car. I need to put on my other blower and my new brakes and rotors. Its going to be a mod weekend

it doesn't take 4 hours to tune a cobalt.
it takes 15 mins to build a decent base map. then maybe another 1 hour at max to fine tune it.
just remember, you tune something on a dyno, it will run different on the street.
