If i were to get a backup ECU to do tuning and if i were to have any problems and switch to my stock ECU could the dealer notice?

I planned on doing the same thing....put my custom tune on the other ECU...keep my stock stage 2 tune on the oringinal ECU....will this work to keep warranty intact?? Does not seem to be much interest in used PCM's for sale....??

I have a couple extra ones sitting around... I paid over $100 each and some shipping. Might find one around that price range. I see them every now and then. Sometimes the owner wants 2 or 3 hundred though because it has a crappy canned tune on it that I would never use, maybe for a 2.6 pulley or something....

I don't know for sure if they could tell or not. If the ECU detects a difference in odometer readings then I would say yes, they will be able to tell. Don't know if the ECU will set any code or anything for this though.

You would need to do a crank sensor relearn on the new PCM. Which requires a dealer, or a shop with Tech II

HPTuners can do CASE relearn...

HOWEVER....

For ECT (drive by wire) cars like the cobalt, the function currently does not work. So, you will have to use a tech II to get the relearn done.

As far as GM's instructions for a pcm replacement is concerned it is required to do a case relearn.

You can buy them... they are a bit pricey though....

I'm sure there are other repair shops that have them as well, you can try calling around.
