hey guys i need some advice again....
so i went to get retuned and turn the boost up from 20 to about 25.
heres what happend:
-The boost needle seemed to shake worse and worse, depending on how much boost i turned it up.
-The needle seems to shake +/- 1 psi at 20. it shakes arond 2 psi when i try to hit 25 psi. I assumed it was the maunal boost controller.
- we are assuming it is compressor surge. with the boost higher, around 2-4500 rpm it would sputter and we could observe the logs spiking out. and the boost read 50 lb/min at certain points.
- At lower boost, like 20-22, it doesnt do it as bad but the issue is still there. Its almost as if the car slugs a little down low rpm, then once it revs high enough it clears up. We do get knock when the logs start to go spikey.
Is this compressor surge? I have a zzp BOV with the stock spring. today i ordered a -11psi spring, for a car that idles 18-20in.
I wonder if my vacuum line setup is incorrect.
2 parts:
- intake mani -> boost gauge t -> BOV
-Compressor -> manual controller -> wastegate bottom port
Is this setup wrong? zzp reccomends using the top port for the MBC
Please shoot me your ideas guys!
thanks

according to a lot of comanies, zzp, tial etc, they said run your vacuum: turbo nipple-> t to the controller-> other t to bottom wastegate -> other side of controller to top of wastegate.
Im going to try this. I got the biggest spring they make for that gate :/
As for the logs, we watched everything start to get jagged. the maf, map, injector duty went way high all of a sudden. That was only within those spikes. so the airflow is unstable. And as the engine revs, the issue starts to level out and injector duty cycle returns to a decent number.
Its just a strange airflow. I cant hear if the BOV is making a bunch of noise because open dump. so my first plan of attack is wastegate, but i ordered a new -11 psi spring compared to the stock zzp BOV -19

its in that lower rpm boost range. I think thats why my car is fast top end but kind of slows down at lower rpm. It definetly kills my 60-100.
Ill take a video later to show you. the boost needed just flickers very fast between a psi or two.

For a typical MBC setup, like what I run, its just vacuum source to the bottom of the MBC (in my case, a Hallman) then from the side port of the MBC you run that to the lower port on the WG, like you said. I know ZZP likes to T the line before the MBC to the top port on the WG, which I believe the idea is to eliminate that possible slight spike as boost hits, but I could be wrong.

i would lean towards bov. make sure it has a dedicated line that is as short as possible.
also, if you do re route your controller to use the top port, remember that the boost controller will then work backwards.

I installed with compressor-> t to MBC -> other t to bottom wg port -> bleed end of controller to top of WG(because the other end needs to see boost).
Didn't work! Left my controller adjusted 75% and it said 7 psi. So I put it back to normal, making 20

It's a 0-30 psi voodoo MBC. Bottom port is bleed, side port sees boost.
So I'm waiting on my -11psi bov spring, hopefully getting rid of my stock zzp -19 spring will help with this strange surge and I can run 25psi no problem

SO those that are using the Saab Intake Manifold,
what did you use for a throttle body gasket, I used thin paper.
I seem to have a vac leak at the mani some where, AFR goes wayyyyy lean idling.
Thanks

i used the same rtv that i use as the oil pan seal and it works for me

Hey can you give me some advice on how to run my vacuum system for my wastegate?? I think I get flutter at higher boost.
I have a compressor port, voodoo mbc(boost port and bleed port), turbonetics deltagate adjustable with new 9-13psi spring.
What is the best way to control my boost with this given info?
I'd love to hear from everyone

If you are having true flutter problems it's wither a gate issue or a leak in the lines.
Sometimes it can be the mbc, but that's usually with home made or eBay ball/spring controllers.
You CAN use a small restrictor in the line between the controller and wg, but you have to be careful and start big and work down. Too much of a restriction will cause a massive boost spike.

Compressor cover -> controller in -> controller out -> wg bottom port

Should my wastegate be turned all the way up? Its adjustable 9-13psi, then turn up the controller?
Or turn the wg down and turn the controller up higher

I'm having some pretty bad spool issues. Earliest spool is about 4500 but it comes on like a light switch. I feel there is something wrong that's causing this. The boost doesn't build smoothly, it builds about 5lbs slow then snaps to 23psi. I have everything for a 3" exhaust on order but I just don't know if a restrictive exhaust could cause this much of an issue. I know a 5862 isn't going to spool at 3k but it should be sooner than 4500. Any ideas?
