Ok Narrowed Down: Stage 2 or Tune?

Alright..I was up town tonight and met a guy with a silver Corvette..had it tuned and all that jazz..nice guy too. He was a load of information. He gave me a guy's number around here that has HPtuners..but hasn't called back yet and I also met another guy that has it. says he can tune mine for $200-250..and free reflash to stock for warranty and free reflash to what I had.
OR
I could continue saving up for my stage 2 this winter. I really am torn between..because I have seen tuned stockers out run stage 2 cars and even new T/C's..so I HAVE NO CLUE what I want to do...so please please help, and NO flaming on anyone!! I want real answers and real opinions please.

the dealer can tell if you've had a tune cause the pcm logs the amount of times you reflash it

you could go with canned tune to start with ZZP is like $125. I think it is pretty much the same as the S2 tune. Would save you a couple bucks and hold you over till you get to a dyno

Canned Tune? I really have no idea what that is. I mean the price sounds good, but like he said they can tell when you had it reflashed at the dealershit...but I dunno if they can here in Rockansas though.

whatever you do, do NOT get a canned tune. That is the worst thing you can possibly do. You have 3 choices.

1. stage 2 tune
2. find someone with hptuners to tune you
3. buy hptuners and have someone send you a tune that you can tweak or just tune it yourself.

I got one of zzp tunes, they tuned it for my mods and i just kept my pcm instead of sending in for the core charge just incase i had to go to the dealer. You could also piece together your own stage2 kit and get it tuned and save yourself some money.

Yeah that seems smarter FOR ME..because I am really touchy on what I put on my car, and it's my first car with a warranty you know? But that sucks that they can loghow many times you have flashed the pcm. I really wanna do the tine from HPTuners. How safe is it?

zzp tunes suck. My intake, header, dp, and just a stage 2 pulley on the stock tune can pull a zzp tuned redline with a 2.8. After 6,500 rpm the zzp looses power because of timing.
Ignore the stage 2 title it is actually zzp

iirc the pcm on 07+ logs reflashes, 06 and prior doesnt. however if i am wrong what you can do is get another pcm to tune and keep your stock pcm for warrenty purposes.

i wouldnt bother tuning if your car is completly stock. if it were me id do header exhaust and intake (or airbox mod), a cobra heat exchanger first. then purchase 60lb injectors and a 2.8 and install them and get it tuned.

Yeah, that's what I am thinking.

That's it I am getting a tune. Just talked to a guy around here. He owns a black 6.0 L GTO all tuned up. He knows his stuff too. He said that he doesn't know for sure about them not able to tell about the reflashes..but said Central chevrolet doesn't have the service techs to tell anyway. He wants me to tell him what I am aiming for so guys give me a heads up on what a good/conservative tune is for stock w/ airbox mod. Thanks guys for all of you information and help and look forward for more input. thanks again!

Second this. That way you get the benefit of upgrades and are still covered by warranty.

after many expereinces with local chevy dealers we proved this to be false

my friend blow his supercharger and under warranty was going to get it replaced and as stated in the GM memo any warranty work that intensive would requier a "scan" of the system computer...many of us beleived this would display how many times a car has been "tuned", however they reported nothing about the several tunes his car had undergone.

so this got me thinking, the memo they released stating this was probly directed towards the new LNF, seeing as how they have a recorder in their ECU that shows this.

in my hands on opinion, you are save to tune.

i personally would get a smaller pulley, 42 injectors and custom tune...WAAY better then GMS2

yeah. the only reason i'm comfortable with it because he is a phone call away to reflash it back to stock! and that he is so much cheaper than the others around here.
Plus, I talked with a guy on youtube..has the silver ss/sc that beat all kinds of cars with exhaust, ETD and a tune. He said that he disabled all tq management, upped the redline to 7K RPM and noted an extreme difference. He also stated that his biddu kept the stock boost limit and noted that during a redline pull thourgh the gears his tuner said his injectors were around 74-76% of their duty cycle. That's exactly what I want...safe

Damnit now there are stage 2 42.5# injectors for sale for CHEAAAAAAP...do I get them and do a custom tune? How hard is a pulley change? Or can I buy those injectors and then use a stage 1-2 conversion kit from crateenginedepot?

60lbers, custom hptune, and pulley of choice. I wouldn't drop below a 2.9 without cooling mods. You are going to be the SAFEST going with 60lbers. This will also leave you room later on down the line to drop to smaller pulleys. If you go with 42lbers, you only have so much room. Hell a 2.9 maxes out the idc's on 42lbers. Get 60lbers and be safe. Do it right the first time.

when the dealer scans the ecu its just seeing what the car was doing that last few seconds or minutes before it busted. they cannot tell if the car has been tuned. they scan for engine rpm, speed vehicle was traveling, and any trouble codes during that particular time.
