Wait... an intake is causing you to not pass emissions?
I am not so sure about that...

Or do you mean state inspection?

As for the airbox, have you taken the wheel and fender lining out? and then disconnect the intake tube from the actual airbox?

LS1's are nice and of course very fast stock, but you would be plagued with one WEAK ASS rear. Especially with a 6 speed. Don't forget about leaky t tops, broken headlight motors, if you got an auto, weak 4l60e, the list goes on. It's a great engine, just not the best of the rest. I've had 2 lt1 fbodies, brother had a 2000 WS6, other brother had a 95 lt1 fbody. I thought of getting an ls1 car instead of my balt, but I changed my mind after remembering everything about them. Sure they're fast, but I got tired of the rest of crap. FYI a new rear like a 12 bolt is over $2k. Just thought I would throw my 2 cents in

EDIT: your CEL is from po171 correct? Isn't there a flash from gm for this problem?

I'm sure it varies from state to state and county to county. The county I'm in (northampton PA), can get you exempt for the year if you put on less then 5k from the last year. So you could actually get away with being exempt forever if you drive less then 5k a year.

Just remember, (and I know this is why its frustraiting) that it was put in their originally, so there has to be a way to get it back in.

There is probably something you just havent thought of yet.
I would say cool off for a while (so that you dont stab your paint with a screw driver) and then take another look once you are settled down a bit.

Usually helps me to do this anyways.

I know getting the Injen tube in there sucked and was making me plenty mad.

After chilling out for a few, I took another look at it and twisted in a way I hadnt before and it popped right in. I have never had to return mine to stock, so I dont know how much of a PITA it really is.

Good luck anyways!

^^^Like he said. I work on cars for a living unfortunitly. Sometimes I get soooo mad I have to just put down the tools and cool down for a little. It's just the way it goes sometimes.

i would check to see if the maf is installed backwards... when i was thinking about getting a cai i was unsure because of all the problems with cels ive been hearing. so when i installed mine i made sure both intakes were side by side and i put the maf directly from one to the other so i couldnt do it backwards. Its been 1.5k miles and ive yet to get a cel

do you still have the tube that goes through the fender connected to the air box?? if you do get yourself another hose clamp (one off the Fujita will work fine) that the crappy one that GM put on there and take the tube off. Put the tube through the fender, and then with the new hose clamp reconnect the air box. Thats how I got mine in and out!
