overheating problem- need advice bad!
Driving home to my university in Bowling Green, KY from Houston, TX while visiting family. About halfway through the trip, I get the overheating icon in my DIC. I pull off to the side of the road, wait for it to cool down then continue to a gas station where I check the coolant, filled it a little and drive on. Problem continues again little over an hour later. DIC coolant is registering 250 degrees but fluctuates anywhere from 190 to 240 during the trip.
I eventually get to a dealer in Little Rock, AK. They take it in, look at it and tell me nothing is wrong. "Chevy made these cars for street racing, not long distance road trips. This is normal. You can't expect a high performance car to not get overheated from time to time." - Neil of Crain Chevrolet, Little Rock, AK
I don't believe that is true at all. They told me they also didn't want to look into the problem too much because of the modifications to my car would read inaccurately on a diagnostic scan.
So here's where I am at:
**2006 SS/SC
**Injen intake and exhaust, no other mods.
**Overheating between 190 to 250 when put on the highway for more than an hour.
**Engine temperatures go up quickly when I go uphill, but cool down back to 190 when I go down a hill.
**I have checked the fuse box. The fuses that are clear plastic that i can see with the naked eye are working.
**NO LEAKS from intercooler or radiator. No cracks or dents either.
**car runs fine in city traffic and has normal coolant temp when not driving for more than an hour.
**When I checked coolant 20 mins after the last "overheating" incident, the coolant was normal consistency and in fact, was rather lukewarm. Not hot at all.
**Check engine light does not indicate a problem at this time.
I have made an appointment to get the car scan at my TRUSTED home town Chevy dealership. Any advice on what the problem could be? I am so puzzled. Thanks.
