but you would think Eaton would also value optimization of the weight and material usage !? bad design is always a possibility (you engineers know who you are!).

So far we can't find any down side! There are 5 of us right now down here who have them ported and all have had great out comes. I know it sounds to good to be true but trust me it isnt. This is the best free mod ever! If you don't trust your self or someone you know doing it, intense offers a ported housing but its 300! Is it worth the 300 imo i say yes! Altho intense does port theirs less then mine or blown's, im sure the out come is still promising! You gain a ton more bottom to mid power and keep the same top end if not gain some. You will gain about 1-3psi depending on how much you port.:twothumbs
|
What about tuning, is it needed? Or can you just rip the blower off and go to town then slap er back on and take off.
|
You will need to retune for it. It messes up you maf and ve table really bad! Your increase of air volume will greatly increase!!
|
Thanks, guess i won't be doing this then. LOL
|
So what tools (how much) will you need to do this and is it hard to take off your blower and do this? Forget the twin screw if this is as good as you all say it is. Il do this wit a 2.5" pulley and some cooling:guns:
|
This mod will come no were near a twin screw but its a start. Its a big jump from having the stock blower tho! You will need a dremal and about 15 bits and about 2-3hr. The supercharger comes off with ease. Just the 4 bolts holding it down and all the hoses and clips hooked onto it.
|
Steve and I are gonna try and do a HOW-TO on it friday night. I'm gonna get him all drunk then make "Do" my "Blower". LOL Keep an eye out guys.

imagine when doing this u need to replace the supercharger oil
what kind of oil do we use, i have eaton oil at the shop i wonder if its the same Just reuse as much of the stock oil as possible. I imagine Eaton oil is the same, after all it is an Eaton blower. I use GM Oil, and about an ounce of lucas. It only needs 4-5oz total of fluid.

So what are the downsides? Less high range tq? Its too good to be true. If its that much of an improvement, why dont blowers already come ported?
The blower does not come like that because it is made for certain specs, and our cars fuel injectors stock could not handle any more air. They also don't want cars to be this loud stock, so they try to keep is silent too.

Done. Just waiting for it to be approved by mods. Tons of pics, and pictures of the individual bits I used :twothumbs

2.5 is just really small. I guess it would be great if you arent planning on having the car for very long, or using it as a daily driver. But realistically it's too small for everyday driving apps.

A 2.5" at 7000 is spinning the blower to 17500 so it just under the limit. Thats why I like the 2.6", it gives the second best torque, and the best top end :twothumbs Plus at 7000 rpm the blower is at 16250 rpm, just barely over the continuous limit. Top Speed run FTW!!!! |
All this talk about porting blowers is making me want to do it more and more. Since now i have dual H.E's thanks to Cobalt_supercharged, im seriously thinkin about takin the leap.. Need a new tune first...mines poop.

Actually, many many people have 2.5" pulleys with no problem. The only thing is that it doesn't gain any top end hp (in fact it looses a little off the top) but it adds like 12-15 ft-lbs of torque. It also creates A LOT more heat, but doesn't over spin the blower.

For all of you guys saying the 2.5" is too much, it's funny, the FASTEST times on the board are with 2.5" pullies. :twothumbs Control the heat, and don't beat the crap out of your car everyday, and you'll be fine. No issues here for almost a year. :twothumbs |

^^ coolin is always important. I just put on a 2nd cobra H.E since im running a 2.6 zzp. Helps keep the IAT levels down with more power you output.
|
running my 2.5 for 6 months no problems here either. i daily drive my car and have never had one single problem with it except this really loud whining noise i can't seem to figure out
