havent seen it yet.. point me to the source please..

i have worked with this ecotec engine alot

my ion, cobalt, sky and hhr as well as over a dozen customer builds we have built

i have not had any internal problems with any of the cars we have worked on for the past 3 yrs and a couple have been over 350hp mostly in the high 200 low 300hp range

There have been plenty of people with LSJ's that have killed a piston. Which uses a different piston then the other ecotecs. In the ecotec build book it recommends replacing the piston for applications for over 300 hp. The pistons in the LSJ are not the greatest and should be replace for a project like this.

im guessing rods would need to be part of that list and few others

Most of which were not monitoring AFR and lost thier motors after the temps dropped meaning they most likely ran lean.

Beyond the 600 maybe. The rods are actually designed after the small block pink rods that are extremely strong.

I don't think you need to worry about piston until 350. Once the turbo kicks in it will produce boost more efficiently. Its really the pressure that will kill the pistons, along with bad tuning.

Because Mitsubishi manufacturers the turbos for Hahn Racecraft. They have been for many years now.

Yep. Most were the resault of a bad tune. But that doesnt change that fact that GM has recommended the piston be replaced for 300 Hp Applications.

yeah i think im good with the mods im planning on doing for sure, rods, heads and all that i dont think will be needed. and also in the gm build book doesnt it say to change pistons for the 2.2? if you pay attention to the 250-400hp build itll suggest to use alot of the 2.0 lsj parts, i dont think the motor is as weak as some think but i still will do certain mods to be safe. i know how i am and ill probably end up wanting to play some more after i get used to the power, so id might as well build up the engine somewhat to hold the power nice and safely. once i get a quote on how much all the parts will cost me, that will decide how much work ill be able to do when its time.

an 11.84 will be hard to get with 350fwhp because of traction issues, also as you get into the higher hp numbers it takes alot more work to shave off even a tenth of a second in the quarter mile. think about it, the Z06 has about 445rwhp and runs an 11.7 i know its heavier than us but our traction sucks and its got about 100rwhp more than us and better technology such as aerodynamics which play a huge part and also better suspension/tires etc. i highly doubt the cobalt will be in the 11's with this setup but thats just my opinion.

another thing i like about this setup is i can go straight turbo in the future if i wanted to.
another question though, if i get forged pistons at a certain compression wont that throw off the tune when i get it from hahn?, as far as im concerned hahns kit is tuned assuming your on a stock motor no? another thing is if im using a specific piston for this setup what will happen if i decide to go straight turbo later or something else, does that mean ill have to change pistons again?

Director of GM Sport Compact Race department suggest I change Pistons above 300 which is my Goal After HIN. Adding Bates Cams, springs, Stage 3 Duel pass Intercooler, 50 Shot with GMs algarithem for CPU. Head Work Exh. Side. How Much boost will it produce combined

If you doing all the internal upgrades go 8.5:1 because if you decide to bump up the boost/hp you'll need them, maybe not with a 16g but a 20g can make 400-500 hp.

Well someone should put this kit on their stock pistons and tell me how it goes and why the hell would you lower compression put the same compression in there 9.5.1 or something like that. That way when you go to tune the bitch it won't be that difficult. I think this is the way to go unless someone comes out with a blower swap. Then its over for everyone on the road. 400hp and 400tq in a blown 4 banger All I could say is wow.

if you're thinking about high levels of boost and hp, you need to think about lower compression. All depends on what levels he wants to run at.

It really depends on what he does to his engine to prepare for high boost. I am using the 10.0:1 with insane boost. The engine is being built to hold every bit of it but that is because we are planning for everything.
