Player 1 comes to life

Hey guy's

Just wanted to let everyone know that I'm finally getting the car tuned.
I will be getting tuned by Tag Racecraft at 9:00am on February 10th.

that's a satuday if anyone local wants to show. (I'm only posting cause so many people have expressed intrest in being there when it gets tuned.

I can't tell you haw exceited I am to finally finish the car off.

after talking with Jim we decided to use the 2.7 and see how far we can take it. hopefully the large exhaust will lower the boost gained by the pulley and the increased rev limit, so that I'm not just producing heat and no power.
anyways, the car is going to be a beast when it's finished.
just some info my baseline Dyno, was 206HP 186TQ ( done by Tag )

after that who knows whats next.

I'm expecting to see between 260 and 275. my base line dyno was done at Tag and I was at 201.
the cams made about 13HP. so before the intake and exhaust I was at about 214HP (untuned).

and watermeth doesn't really add that much power, it's main purpose is to lower the temps so you can do more power adders. like in your case go with a 2.5" pulley and continue to make power instead of heat

I think seeing as how you built the valve train up you should be good from Valve lift, but did you do pistons and rods?

I'm pulling for ya. I don't see what the big deal is with the 8K redline. Your valve train will be fine with the upgrades you have made. I would like to mention; though, that you might want to pick up a set of neutral balance shafts. That high of a redline is going to put you on the edge. I would say stay with a 7800 redline... I'd love to see you break 275, since my future mods are going to be very similar to yours.

i dont think your motor will be safe at 8 grand, you should look at changing your neutral balance shafts,

i know im gonna run to 8000 rpms this spring, but ive dippped a little deeper into the motor then u will have

why 7800 and not 8000?
don't see how much of a difference it's goint to make

Because 7800 is pushing it for the balance shafts, 8000 is just dangerous...

from what i understand u need neutral balance shafts after 7500 that was a while ago where i read it, but not a 100% sure where either, i know at 8000 id be fearing for my crank

i kno where it was it was the ecotecforums im pretty sure, our factory shafts are designed for about 7200 and think they spin at twice the engine speed, so now make them spin at 16000 yah i woldnt be trusting the factory ones

To be honest, I don't remember where I got that figure from. I know that the GM Stage 3 information reccommends replacing the balance shafts with neutral balance shafts and upgrading the valve train components for anything past 7000 RPM. From what I understand, with those modifications you can rev all the way up to 8000 no problem. I'll have to search around for where I learned that it was possible to take the balance shafts past 7K...

Get Halfcent in here, he's a regular fountain of knowledge when it comes to this stuff...

I think around 270HP.

Where do the cams run out of breath? The redline is only as good as the cams. If the cams stop making power at 7500, then that should be where your redline should be.

That's what tuning with a 8K redline will let them do. Hopefully they won't break the engine and will find where power starts to drop off, and hopefully drop the redline back to that point...

I just went through the GM 300HP build book, and they tuned to 7800RPM with stock balance shafts.

as far as the Cames go. the dyno chart showed I lost poswer from 0-2800rpm, and from then on in kept gaining ant in increased rate.

in the build book, they mention the neutral balance shaft but they don't actually use them.
they do also say that you can gain about 10HP by replacing them.

but that 300HP engine, they used the stock shaft and tuned to 7800, and stoped because they started to loose power. but they didn't have stage 2 cams like me.

Like I said, I'm definately rooting for you. Do what you think will work and I'll keep my fingers crossed. Maybe when I get my P&P Head w/ upgraded valvetrain and get retuned with a higher redline, you will have paved the path for me to know that 8K is alright...

Did you use the LSJ buildbook or the regular 2.2 buildbook? I believe they replaced them in the LSJ one if I remember correctly.
