Ported Head Question I Need Help?
How does the ported head sold on crateenginedepot.com http://(www.crateenginedepot.com/sto...-P333C144.aspx) compare to the work the JBP does? What type of gains can I expect from the the Ecotec perfrmance Head on CED's site. Will I need different internals?

i would tend to agree the GMP one is probably just cast with larger ports and combustion chambers while the other is probably portes and the ridges are smoothed out so it decreases turbulance. if the prices are close i think i would probably got the the non GM head. the big thing you want to look at is how many CFM's it flows. the more the better.

I've had my cobalt for almost two years now and have done many custom mods but have been conservative until now with performance gains for the sake of waiting to see what is out there. However, I'm beginning to build my engine and want to do everything at once. I currently own all these following products but am holding off to do it as one big eventful install: intake, header,3" downpipe, 3" exhaust, modular pulley system with a 2.7 pulley, 60lb injectors and harness, 2 step colder plugs, adjustable pulley tensioner and CA Heat exchanger on order. I have another 2500 - 3,000 to spend and was considering pistons, ported head, cams, and valve springs but don't know which to get and from where? Please I need advice! My goal is 300 WHP somewhat safely!

These engines in these cars are good up to at least 300hp, what you have to watch out for is the drivetrain. Clutches, axles and entire transmissions in some cases.

intense pistons
jpb cams
and jpb head 3 different choices for the head last is about 3k but gives a 14-19 percent gain in hp

That head is fully CNC ported, meaning GM made a program and used a computer to open up the ports as much as they could, and CNC is smooth, much better than hand porting unless you are one of those exceptional few that can do better freehand.
Might want to ask Tom if he has a copy of the flow sheet, I have been considering this, but I was hoping for a head that accepts little larger valves
also we have a differnt head than most ecotecs, so I am not sure which one is cnc'd
this is an interesting link for info on the ecotec http://www.tprmag.com/inside/ecotec/powertrain.shtml

Pistons? Wiseco all the way. Go to www.carcustoms.net, contact karo and he'll set you up.
Cams? jbodyperformance.com should have a set for your motor.
One other thing, you're in Cali, wouldn't this get you in a shitload of trouble emission wise? Just curious.

i don't have to worry about emissions for the first seven years in cali. Are JBP the only Cams for our cars? I want to try the 10.0:1 compression and go with as small of a pulley that will allow for no engine knock. How about the drivetrain? what needs to be beefed up?

Ultimately, it's up to you.
