Questions about rebuild
So I've stupidly decided to take on the task of rebuilding my engine. I have some working mechanical knowledge of vehicles, but this is my first and real attempt at engine work. The reason due to the rebuild is that I was told from the previous owner that one of the pistons had blown. So I've removed a few of the parts to double check, and lo and behold it has and has scratched into the cylinder wall.
This is the point at which I'm stuck. I know I need to get the block out to be resurfaced and bored out. But my question is, what all do I need to do to get it removed? What else should I be paying attention to besides my bank account? Any help would be greatly appreciated!

Get ahold of the lsj build book. It will help you with a lot from removal of the motor to rebuilding it. I'd suggest a new block or new sleeves with the cylinder is damaged though.

You can download the pdf's for the build book on the redline forums. The process of removing the engine isn't all that difficult. I've removed/reinstalled two cobalt engines. I have a single car garage and no hoist so I used some jack stands to raise the vehicle up, then I used two floor jacks on either side of the square subframe and then I lowered it onto two piano dollys. Then you can just roll the assembly out the side. (This assumes your head is removed) If you wanna do it with the head on, then you'll need to disconnect the AC/RAD and take it out the front, or else get some really high jack stands.
