This creates a high pressure area right infront of the scoop that is used to force and when i say force, i mean very lightly force the air down the intake tube. Most ram air systems are useless till you are traveling at some pretty fast speeds.

Basically all he has is a cold air intake with no filter and thats it. And while yes our blower acts like an intake, it also acts as a wall. Because the blower can only take in so much air per revolution, and unless he has a magic "ram air" system, hes not going to be creating any PSI to help push more air into the blower.

This mod is pointless and anyone who thinks otherwise. . .have a nice day
We'll see...

Agree. The only thing this may do is give it a louder whine but thats about it.

I agree with jayson on this. To get any benefit from "ram air" you have to be traveling over 100mph. And even then the difference it nill. This was always a debated topic for the 4th gen fbody's as people always wondered if the ram air made more power then a CAI. It's been dyno'ed and no difference (with VERY large fans to act as moving air, and I mean BIG), and at the track with no mph change. Also have fun hooking up a vacuum gauge before the tb. Won't get a reading.

EDIT: However it's still a good way to get some fresh cool air into your engine and have a different look than the reast of the CAI's out there. If you can keep the filter clean with the way you're making the box etc.

Acctualy ram air works effectively at 60mph and only becomes more efficient at higher speeds...

maybe ram air isnt the correct wording here... what i am trying to do is create an intake system that is a little more efficient than a standard old CAI. Im positive with the way its setup the system should provide more fresh air to the airbox than a standard CAI.
The filter should stay clean no problem, we will be using a velocity cone within the collector box and the air will be filtered again within the airbox.

I have see other setup like the one you are creating. Specifically I recall Car Craft magazine did an entire artical on cold air induction, which is what you are doing. They used a 5.0 mustang and to make it a cheap quick modification they used worm gear clamps and aluminum dryer ducting. They made the bace line run with just under hood air. Then the tried a forward faceing scoop mounted in the headlight bucket verses a cowl induction cold air pick up. Both versions made gains over underhood but if I remember correctly the forward "ram air" had them running throught the traps at 105 mph where the cowl cold air they where trapping 107,108. The high pressure air off the front of the car causes turbulance around the opening, reducing the actual amount of air entering. The cowl is naturally a low pressure area with less turbulence so by positioning the intake there the engine can consume a higher volume of cold air. Not to mention you wouldnt need to fear road debri or

weather or not it works no me makes no difference to me at all. But to see someone making their own parts makes me warm and tingly inside. it deff wouldnt work on my 07 cobalt ss/sc because of the abs lines. And im happy with my hacked up $60 ebay intake......

but you have to admit someone trying to make their own intake (weather it works or not) is alot better than another.......... "WHAT INTAKE SHOULD I GET" thread.

Funny thing is after I removed one blower to put on a nitrous kit and still had the boost gauge on I never saw any "proof" of anything being forced into my engine over atmospheric pressure through my ram air. Even close to 100mph. I do give you props for making your own stuff. It looks awesome and will definitly give you the coldest air you can get. That is worth it IMO.

I did this sorta thing on my last truck I had...

given the truck was higher off the ground

wherever that tube comes up in the air box is where your filter will be the most dirty...
good work though man

that is the real reason why i am making this setup, ive been testing it over the past few days and even in 85+ degree weather running hard pulls and driving the car in city traffic for up to an hour at a time, once i get a chance to stop and check it the upper pipe is staying very cool, alot cooler than the factory rubber piece was... i can put my hand on it and it feels cooler than it does when the car has been sitting over night. And thats still running the stock restrictive lower piping, i cant wait to see how well it works once it is completed.

It pretty much is a CAI... just more efficient at getting that cool air directly from the outside of the car.
