rattling question
hi, i picked up a used 05 ss/sc 2 weeks ago and i noticed today that a rattling sound was coming from the rear driver side of my car when i am between 2000-3000 rpms and then again around 3000-4000. i'm pretty sure that everything on my car is stock. i'm almost certain it is something to do with exhaust and think that it may be my heat shield that is loose on the muffler causing the rattling, but i am not very experienced with cars. Is it common for the heat shield to come loose on these cars? Also, what are some other possibilites that may cause this problem?
Thanks

very well could be a heat sheild. it's easy to check, get under the car and just feel around the heat sheild. if the sheild is touching either the body of the car, or the pipe, that's your problem. all you have to do is bend it away from what it's touching.

I took the car to meineke because i couldn't find where the heat shield was touching anything and the mechanic there said that he couldn't really hear the sound but he did notice that the catalytic converter was falling apart because he noticed little pieces of metal coming from the exhaust. do you think that the cat could be the cause of the sound i noticed? I'm taking it to the gm dealership tomorrow to get a new cat because i'm still under warranty.
