recent belt squeak...
whatup yall,
ok so recently my belt has been squeaking, mostly on cold start ups and then goes away after a few mins when its warmed up. didn't bother me much...
now all of a sudden its squeaking throughout more of the rpm range.
i'm on a 2.8" pulley, gm stage 2 belt, multiple pulley system. my tensioner isn't moving/vibrating, the s/c pulley seems to be right in line with the rest of the pulleys. and i had it like this for 3 months now. any ideas?
i've searched, so far all i came up with is 'switch the belt around' and i think that means 180 degree turnaround, not inverse the belt. can anyone clarify that?
otherwise, looks like i might need to bring her in somewhere. how do u check the system with a 'stethoscope'? not sure since its pulleys were dealing with here on a running car

If nothing else give Sean a call. He's good at finding where things are squeaking and fixing them.
Like did you know there are little thing that can cause the hood to vibrate and squeak, and a simple twist will stop it? I went crazy trying to figure it out before I told him about it. Took him 10 seconds to know what it was and fix it.

lol, with the car running and the hood closed, it was vibrating and buzzing. It would stop if you pressed down on the hood near the headlights. I only noticed it when I was letting it warm up and I was outside scraping the windows. Anyways, there are two little cap looking things on each side, and a simple turn made it stop.

well i still havent been able to flip the belt over to see if that helps, i tried using a 15mil open end wrench to depress the tensioner, and i couldn't 'grab' it, do i need to use something else?? i gave up because i didn't wanna strip it..

I always tie the belt up when I remove the blower/change pulleys so I don't have to install the belt from scratch. When I would go to place the belt back over the blower pulley (no matter how careful I was) it would come off the a/c compressor pulley a rib or two.

Plenty of time to check alignment with this tool.

^ lol
Yeah looks like the redneck version of the pulley boys tool.
We once did my car the aggie way, with three people, a 15mm wrench, and some rope. lol
ZZP tensioner beats all though. You can do it one-handed and it takes very little effort to keep it locked down.

Yep.. redneck version that only cost .82 instead of $75. LOL
Even if it had slipped it wouldn't have gone any where, if I had a welding machine I would just weld the nut to the bracket and put the bolt in it as needed.
Two nuts, (LOL) a 6 inch bolt, (LOL again) and a decent pair of vice grips made putting that over sized pulley on pretty easy. No fighting with a 15mm wrench or a pry bar.
