Red Star Performance Tune

Well, I finally got tuned today. I've been talking about it for a long time. We ran into some problems with HPT not wanting to read my ecm but after a while, it got figured out. I would first like to say that I was very pleased with the work of this shop, however....the results are not concrete (wasn't his fault).

We both were on time schedules and I told him I wanted avery safe tune. It took forever to get my car hooked up and then he got an AFR that was very safe. Only problem is it took a while because my AFR were at 14.7 when we started . Since it took so long, my car began heat soaking. We were seeing 250 hp the entire time while he was messing with AFR and he hadn't even messed with the timing yet. By the time we got around to trying to tweak it for more power, it was already heat soaking and both of us were running really close on time. Bottom line, I ended with a safe tune and a 251whp dyno run. We had to let it sit for 20 minutes just to get that 251 again. header, downpipe, exhaust, smaller pulley, and tune only netted me 10 hp. kind of depressing but it was a dynojet not a mustang dyno....and I also hope that my car just needed more time and it would have shown better numbers. Opinions????

bump. Nobody ran into this problem while tuning? Nobody started heat soaking before the tune was completed????

IMO...... that's pretty crappy numbers. obviously the guy was a noob to HPT or tuning in general. about a month ago i put a 3" pulley, 42s, 1 step colder plugs, magnaflow muffler & the aem craptastic intake on my car, got dyno tuned and put down 240whp/206wtq on a Mustang dyno and my tuner put a very good tune on my car. if i want to i can go back in the spring and he'll tweak up the tune and make it more aggressive.

I found that HP #'s aren't that different from a GM tune but
response is much better you step on it it pulls right away

I tuned someone who already had a stage 2 tune from GM I'm sure the HP
is similar but as soon as I plugged the tune in ...he pressed the gas and went wow

GM has the a/f ratio set at 10.8 I believe ---going off of memory from 6 months ago---

someone correct me if I am wrong

while most tuners have it set to respond right away at 11.7 when entering PE
or wide open throttle.... what happens is that the car doesn't go rich
and bog down it responds A.S.A.P. THE FUN OF A SUPERCHARGER

a tuner makes your car more responsive when driving around town
and makes your car safe but fun ..... otherwise he's a hack

max HP is only at the top end
max fun is all around respond to the throttle

p.s. drive for show
putt for dough

( golf analogy ....)

I don't think its on him. He has tuned several cobalts and My numbers would have been better if my car wasn't so exhausted from all the runs. I also told him that safety was my priority. I think if I went back and not so heat soaked....I would see 260ish, which is what I expected. And I made a mistake. My hp was 254. I'll post the chart later.

I think my AFR ranges from 11.6 - 12.2 but I'll have to look at my chart to double check. With a safe tune and my mods....I have never heard of anybody having more than 260 or 265ish and he feels that my dyno would have showed those numbers if my supercharger was not exhausted and heat soaking....
