rods and piston installation question

Hey everyone, i just need a little help i cant seem to find this even in the Haynes manual.

when putting the pistons and rods back together, the f on the pistons goes toward the timing chain but which way to the rods face? the only thing i notice on the rods is a little bump on the crank side end of the rod. anyone who had put these back together can you please tell me how the rods go or if it even matters

thanks alot

well when you were disassembling you should have marked the rod caps silly!

are you using new rod bearings? if so it don't matter, if you are not then you would want them to go back exactly the way they came out. meaning 1 goes back to 1, 2 goes back to 2 and facing the right way.

also make sure you have all the caps going on the right rod, they are a "crack capped rod" meaning they must go back on the right piece like a puzzle

yeah lol i know marking would have been great unfortunately i cant do it now lol... but yes i have new rod bearings and i also figured out which cap goes with which rod.

so what your saying is as long as the pistons go f towards front that little bump on the bottom of the rod doesnt matter?

for future reference, don't take ANYTHING apart EVER on your engine with out marking it. ESPECIALLY internals.

in my build pics it looks like the bump was going towards the reluctor ring on the big end of the crank towards #4 cyl and the F on the pistons go towards #1 cyl

no prob, remember the rod cap bolts, cam gear bolts, crank pulley bolt, headbolts and mainbolts are NOT re usable.
