SS/SC intakes

I had a 3" Rebel intake, and a 3" XTC intake at one time .... both of them fit like crap, and there was no performance change between it and the injen. All SS/SC intakes provide about the same gain. Be it 3" or 2.75" (injen/k&n). If you are going TVS or have the LS4 throttle body then yes a 3" intake is a good option to have, but for the M62 guys, or in my case H62, we really wont see that much of a difference in power. Trust me.
Remember bigger is not always better.

Anyway.. The LS4 TB is a decent deal bigger than stock, so "bigger is not always better", fails there.

So you see bigger is not always better.

I never said it wasnt acceptable, but your comment asking why everyone isnt using a 3" intake isnt justifying anything. Just like with an exhaust system, if you arent taking in or producing big airflow numbers your velocity of the incoming air will slow down. Velocity is just as important as flow. Yes, you are flowing more air with a 3" intake, but if you arent producing the power to really warrent it you will not make any more power over a smaller intake.
So you see bigger is not always better.

Same with the 3" exhaust. As long as you're 2.5" in the DP, 3" cat-back is fine. Most, if not all, of the back-pressure occurs before the catalytic converter anyway.
I'm not trying to argue by any means, I'm just saying there is no reason to deter someone from getting a 3" intake. I think everyone should own one.

Reason being, most people plan on doing more than just an intake. Either way, 3" really isn't going to kill you even if you were stock. Seeing as how most, if not all, intakes for the SS/SC are at least 2.5" then taper off into 3", they are just not "true" 3".

Anyways, i wasnt detering anyone from buying a 3" intake, but to think everyone should have a 3" intake, and not bother buying an injen or k&n intake is not right either. I'm not arguing either, but ive had a few different intakes (XTC, AEM, Rebel, Injen), so i know a thing or to about them for the lsj. They all provide the same gain trust me.

I just bought a second-hand RAW 3'' intake form Pyro. This thing was fairly straightforward to install. The engine responds a bit better, looks beast, and down right screams past 3500rpm.
My only complaint is that the inner wheel fell does scrub under full right lock. I hope that this is just a simple adjustment issue and not something that I will have to live with.

ANyways, I got the ZZP Intake. Love it, It was a bitch to install though. A few areas I need to keep an eye on for rubbing but nothing serious.
I had to the K&N Typhoon, but it rubed on my PCM and brake lines... so I had to take it out.
Dono what my gains are, I havnt gotten it dynoed, but it feels peppier,
My AFR fluxuations more during small throttle adjustments then it used to.
Simce im still tuned for the K&N but no MIL comming on. My fuel trims went from -17 up to arround -12

I've got a question for you guys... I work at a welding shop so I built myself a stainless cai. Its a 3" pipe from the throttle body than it has a 4" going into the wheelwell. After I put it on it threw a check engine light. The codes were p0171 (fuel trim lean bank 1) and p1101 (intake air flow system performance) the car bogs when you go wot now... any suggestions? I don't want to have to get the car tuned but id like to keep my pipe...

Sounds like your intake is making you loose power, which most all Ebay ones do and has been proven.

I'm also a welder so I wanted to build my own intake until I found out even the slightest wet fart near the intake would cause a CEL. Not sure I even understand why a MAF is so sensative
Has anyone tried to wrap or shield the stock charge pipe up top to deflect heat? That could help as well and might make up some of the difference between the $200 models and the airbox mod. Just a thought!

Got a question for the guys that have the ZZP intake, did it come with the screws in the maf sensor? I have a Injen intake right now and it is getting rubbed real bad, so Im looking at getting something new. And have heard good things about the ZZP intake, only problem is my screws that hold the maf sensor into the intake are stripped out. So I need new screws, I have the JET Performance MAF sensor Im going to install into it, until I can get the stock one back out. Thanks for any help I can get.

New Member here. Just got my car 1 week ago and had a CEL the first day I drove it. Turned out the stock airbox was flopping around in the front fender. I decided rather than fix the old box to pickup an Injen CAI and WOW what a difference!!
Now I am not claiming this is due to brand or anything, I have not yet inspected the old air filter which may very well have been plugged but the car was really sluggish and was bucking under throttle at low RPMs. My gas mileage on my trip into work wnet up by 8.75%.
Can't wait for my Trifecta Engine tune.
