stage 2 SC Hub and pulley?
Can I buy the GMPP SC hub and stage 2 pulley alone? Or can I only get it in the stage 2 kit? The reason I am asking is to see if there is a cheeper way to put togeather a GMPP stage 2 package. For example, buying stage one and getting the snout and pulley seperatly.
Thanks, Mike
Thanks, Mike

Yes, I ment hub ( I dont know what I was thinking when I typed snout) The reason being is I work at a GM dealership and I can get things for cost. If I buy stage one and can get the hub and pulley alone, I will save some money and have a complete GMPP stage 2 kit. I am just looking to see if I can get S2 cheeper. I am not really worried about how much it will cost, just seeing if I can get a better deal.

no. you have to buy the kit, unless you buy a used stage 2 hub and pulley from someone.
i tried the stage 1 and then bought a stg 2 pulley. it is NOT the same ecu recalibration. i was severely lean with the stg 1 tune. got myself a stage 2 ecu recalibration and it made a world of difference in performance and it dumps way more fuel because of a richer commanded A/F ratio.

So I can piece it togeather and keep it all GMPP and under warrenty?? I was hoping I could just get the stage one kit and buy the hub and pulley alone making it a stage 2 kit but for far less money.

just get a modular pulley kit from njhk or something like that. I'm sure he will chime in soon. $90 bucks will get you whatever pulley size you want and a hub. Then you can get the gm stage 1 kit so you have injectors and a tune. Cheaper than STG 2!

njhk doesnt sell pulleys. different guy you're thinking of is nate (cant remember screen name) but he custom makes pulleys and hubs.
i just tried doing that pieced together kit with stage 1 and the pulley. it works but the car runs lean. once i got the correct tune i run way rich now and the car pulls harder and sounds meaner. stage 1 tune does not command the same A/F ratio as the stage 2 tune. you might get away with it for a while but you arent doing your engine any favors. don't cheap out on the important stuff.

Thanks for all the suggestions guys! I dont want to go with a pulley set up if its not GMPP, I really want to keep my warrenty. I guess I will have to look into the stage one and two tunes alittle more before I buy one.
Thanks guys!

According to the Stage kit sticky on this site, there is only ONE GM Stage tune. LINK
Take note of the second post, first line after the picture.
To the original poster, if you look around Ebay, here and a couple other sites, you may be able to come across a GM hub and pulley. I found a good deal on the hub, with stage 2 and 3 pulleys, on Ebay.

I too had read that sticky but I have heard both sides of the story. Some saying they are the same and others saying the A/F ratio is different between the two. Thanks for the heads up about ebay I will have to check that out! I think I am going to just get stage two when I am ready and not chance having a messed up A/F ratio.

I honestly wonder where some of the information comes from these days.
Actually, I wonder why it gets convoluted so badly. It's a miracle some people can even use a computer.

Doc, I have got to agree with you on that one. I have been on many car forums and every time I join a new one there is one (usually more) thing/s that half the people say and it is completely wrong then the other half says something and it is 100% correct. The hard part when your a noob (like I am on this site) is figuring out which is the correct one.

i REALLY wish i had access to a dyno or atleast some hpt, but i dont have any dyno sheets or hpt logs to post. just a set of fucked up spark plugs (white and rainbow colored means cylinder temps too hot due to lack of fuel usually) and i could take some pictures of the car puffing some black smoke from the exhaust where as a non-stage2 calibration vehicle will not.
let me flip that question.... does anyone have data or dyno sheets that give evidence to support the theory of having one tune for both stage kits?

You're serious ....I have multiple hpt files that support that argument. The only differences are the years. The stage 1 and stage 2 tune is identical. GM's literature even states that. The difference is the smaller pulley for stage 2.
